My first suggestion would be to see if NEC has a BIOS update available for you. Your observation that tapping on the drive fixes it is the really strange part. Are you sure it isn't just that tapping the drive helps the time to pass while Win95 finishes what it is doing? He said that my W3.11 applications wont't run well or sometimes at all on an OEM W95 install. He suggested that this is the cause of many a W95 crash. He says if I want to run 3.11 type applications like LotSuite 3.1, Quicken 5, Quickbooks 3 and MSWorks 3, then I *must* go the W95 *upgrade* route. He says the problem with this is that the upgrade version loses some of the Internet functionality. I simply cannot justify the expense of buying all new W95 compatible applications. And if I can't run existing 3.11 compatible applications on a new OEM W95 installation, then I simply can't justify the expense of the new unit. And the idea of going the upgrade route to have only a half functioning system doesn't attract me. I would appreciate hearing about other peoples experience on this.
