One of the very few reasons I've heard for carrying a RAM disk. Of course one wonders how much ram you have on hand. Try this: As soon as the "Starting Windows95" message appears, press the F8 function key and from the boot menu, choose SAFE. Let it boot all the way up (it takes longer than a normal load), then choose Shut Down and Restart. That reload may also take somewhat longer than usual. The symptom you have described seems to be a fairly common, but non-threatening, bug in the Shut Down functions. Safe rebooting is a useful "general fix" every once in awhile anyway, but in my case, the hang was specific to only one of the choices (Quit), & SAFE fixed it. Bill D ... Bored at 3:00 a.m.? Well, mine will do the same thing if I open a share to a LanManager or LM/X server. The connection times out, and will automatically be restored if I actually use it, but if I try to shut down it will hang my machine. All it takes is a quick DIR on the shared directory and it will shut down nicely. Win95 is supposed to negotiate a backwards-compatible mode with LanManager and older servers, but it apparently doesn't in this case.
