So does the KH> autoexec.bat or the config.sys ACTUALLY do anythin in Win95 boot, once KH> and for all??? I've heard conflicting answers? It's not a big deal for Generally speaking, autoexec.bat and config.sys do accomplish things at Win95 boot, but it depends on just what you're doing with them. For example, if you load himem.sys in config.sys and nothing else, you accomplish nothing, because Win95 will do this automatically anyway. On the other hand, if you load himem.sys followed by EMM386, you'll get access to UMBs, exactly as it worked with DOS/Win3.x. Win95 does not automatically do that. On my old machine, I loaded DOS drivers for a CD ROM drive in config.sys and autoexec.bat because Win95 didn't recognize that particular drive. It does recognize other types, making the DOS drivers unnecessary on some machines. I use the autoexec.bat file primarily for loading environmental variables, a path statement, and DOSKEY. This works exactly as it did under DOS. In short, you don't have to have either autoexec.bat or config.sys to run Win95, but they can be used to do useful things. Steve ... Captain!
