Check to make sure the mouse files were saved into the mouse directory and not into another (mouse1 for example). If they are in the appropriate directory, while in dos, from the command line type cd\mouse and then run your mouse.com file. If everything is fine the mouse driver will load. If not check to make sure all the necessary files are loaded and in the right directory. When I loaded my new mouse driver I had to load into a new directory and change the directory listing in the autoexec.bat file. Like I said, make sure the two match. If not, delete the mouse directory and reload the software fresh. ... Back up my hard disk? It finds the .DLL and other related files for a program and even allows you to copy them with the pathnames intact to a compressed file. If the directories are the same, you can even move them to another machine. It will create DIRECTORIES as needed and the program can be run just fine. On 03 Mar 98 18:53:53, a Gin and Tonic at the Angler's Rest overheard Bill Dawson say to Jerry Schwartz: BD>There were three of these PC-Oriented order cycles I knew somewhat BD>about. The first two were won by Zenith, and the third by Sperry- BD>Unisys. The first was not large -- Z-100's (almost-compatible PC/ BD>XT class that looked more like TRS Model 4's than an IBM). BD>The second was a quite large order, based on 8 MHz Z-248's with BD>512k of RAM and 40 MB HDD's. I lived through some of those machines while working for the USAF (mercifully, I am now a retired civil servant). The Z-120 was designed very early on, and there were lots of other PC uncompatibles around at the same time (Texas Instruments had one, Victor had one, and so forth). The Z-120 had an S-100 (Altair) bus, and the machine had dual CPUs; both an 8085 and an 8088; supposedly, it could run an 8 bit CP/M as well as MS-DOS. I put some PD programs on ours, just to see what would run and what wouldn't; anything that tried to do anything interesting with graphics would not run, as the Z-120 screen was incompatible with any kind of PC screen. For a while, the gummint bought Z-150s, which were XT clones. Some of them were Tempest approved, meaning they had 1/4" steel cases, millions of screws holding them together, and hard drives with removable cartridges. They, at least, had the advantage of running any "normal" PC program. The Z-248s were 8 MHz AT clones, as I remember. Ours had a Zenith "VGA" on it, which meant you got the 640 x 480 16 color screen, but not the 320 x 200 256 color screen, and I never saw a Tempest certified one. The floppy disk was a 360K disk, not the 1.2 meg disk all IBM ATs had. For a while, I used one with 1 meg of memory, connected to a LAN, running MS-DOS 5.0 and with Windows 3.1 on it. I avoided Windows at all costs. One time, I had to use Windows, in order to read a Word for Windows 2.0 document off of the LAN, from MS Mail. I clicked on the icon for the document, and FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER, the machine finally showed me page 1 of the document. Finally, there was the Sperry 386 machine. They ran at 20 MHz, and STILL didn't have a 1.2 meg floppy drive (or a 3.5" floppy, either). And the "4 meg" machine I had had 640K of conventional memory, 3 megs of extended memory, and NO UPPER MEMORY (between 640K and 1 meg) AT ALL. I have no idea why the gummint was unable to purchase standard machines from anybody. I can only suggest complete incompetence on the part of the people who wrote the RFP.
