The MEM comand displays may be more concise and enlightening. Possible conditions: 1. You really do have 640k only - The only version of Windows that I know to run in those conditions is 3.0 in "real" mode - useless for most software 2. You have 640k + 384k shadow and can reset it to be extended - This may allow 3.1 to run in standard mode. I don't believe this mode is available to WfWG. 3. EMM386 has used all available XMS - try without 4. You need more memory - the older 1 Mb 30 pin simms can be found cheaply second user. I've seen Windows 3.1 running on a 2 Mb machine - ok if you don't stress it too badly... and putting an ISA bus memory card in was WORSE.
