Windows 95b, also known as OSR2 or OEM Windows 95, is only available on a new computer. It cannot be bought in the store. You can check the Control Panel/System/General tab to see what version you have. If there's a 'b' after the version, you've got it. The symptoms range from NETERR() returning .F. after a failed APPEND BLANK (in Clipper and VO 1 & 2) to corrupted index files. In the failed APPEND BLANK problem, the REPLACE takes place, but on an existing record, not a new blank one. And there are no error messages. Just damaged data integrity. It's been isolated to a problem in the VREDIR.VXD network redirector file that's supplied with Windows 95b. The quick and dirty fix is to replace this file with the one from a Windows 95a installation and reboot the workstation. This file is caching data on the workstation and not updating the cache when a change occurs on the server. So far, this problem only occurs with NT networks, not Novell. It consists of a new CAVORT20.DLL file. The problem they had with large numbers (greater than ten digits) being displayed wrong and entered into the table wrong didn't get fixed with the 'a-1' patch. This new DLL fixes it for real. If you downloaded the 2.0a patch _after_ June 25, 1997, you already have the correct DLL. If you downloaded it before, you need to get the new DLL from either CompuServe or the CA web site at www.mf.cai.com . It's named CAVORT20.ZIP. Many suburban streets will have numbers -> going up into the 100's, fewer streets reach into the 200's, etc. Our county has a nice numbering system. They start at 0 at the north and east borders. Then they measure the distance from the border to the particular lot. The address is the number of feet, minus the last digit. For example, my address is 4706, which means it's just about 47,060 feet from the eastern border. It's a real handy system when you're on a long street and don't know how far it is to the address you're looking for.
