I saw an interesting segment on the Saturday March 1st episode of Computer Connection on CNN. It said that the IRS testified at the "National Commission on Restructuring the IRS" that it is GOING TO COST $129,000,000 to reprogram its computers to recognize the year 2000. They said that a fix to the year 2000 problem is the highest priority of the tax collecting agency. I emphasized "GOING TO COST" because the story sounded like that they haven't taken steps yet to solve the year 2000 problem, even though it's less than three years away. --- Maximus 2.02 * Origin: The House of Comments (1:250/620) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 202 CLIPPER Ref: E3500002 Date: 02/27/97 From: JEFF HOBDAY Time: 05:03pm \/To: DENIS BRAUSSEN (Read 1 times) Subj: Subject:commerical clippe -=> Eric Engelmann <=- EE>@SUBJECT:Subject:commerical clipper announcements appropriate N >I accidentally posted an announcment for the Clipper shareware CD-ROM my ... LDF> Please don't bite it off. :) LDF> Would some patient individual please explane to me what LDF> clipper is? Is it some kind of programming language or LDF> somthing? Cheers Laurent Clipper is a database oriented programming language that basically has a compiler and a linker that can produce an .EXE program. The compiler translates program source (.PRG) files into an object (.OBJ) file. The linker takes one or more object (.OBJ) files and "links" them together to produce an executable (.EXE) program (application or utility). Usually the end result .EXE is used to maintain database files. Originally Nantucket Corporation's (Clipper Winter '85) was designed to produce directly executable programs that would handle Ashton-Tate's dBASE files. Over the years, Clipper has developed into a seperate dialect from the dBASE product, providing it's own methods/solutions on how to develop database programs. So I guess this is what you wanted to know.... or probably more than you wanted to know. --- * QMPro 1.53 * steven.read@pcohio.com --- InterEcho 1.19 * Origin: PC-Ohio PCBoard * Cleveland, OH * 216-381-3320 (1:157/200) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 202 CLIPPER Ref: E3500004 Date: 03/03/97 From: STEVEN READ Time: 11:25pm \/To: ALL (Read 1 times) Subj: Clipper versions list Since the activity on the Clipper conference is low, I thought I'd throw up a little list of Clipper versions that I've been collecting.
