--------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 202 CLIPPER Ref: DGQ00001 Date: 12/19/96 From: RAYMOND PESEK Time: 06:20am \/To: ASTRA@SISTEL.IT (Read 0 times) Subj: Dos error 5 under win95 FC ->Sometimes, our application (Clipper 5.2e + Exospace 1.0g under Windows ->95) crash with "Dos error 5" on various workstations (4 pc with Win95, ->3 user + 1server). ->I don't know if there is a way to configure Win95 about maximum number ->of shareable files, like parameters /L & /F in SHARE.EXE on DOS ->machines). ->Is there anyone can help me for this problem ????? Thank you! Several people have reported this problem with this configuration. Everyone who got it fixed reported they only switched linkers from Exospace to Blinker. The reported problems have been DOS error 5 and various "lock failed" error messages. One of the problems I have with Exospace is that there is no ongoing development for it, whereas Blinker is a bread-and-butter product for BlinkInc. Check out their web site at http://www.blinkinc.com . They have a demo available that will allow an executable to run for five minutes. If you can reliably dupliacte the problem, that should tell you if Blinker will fix it. Adresses of these jokers are usually fake (look at the address). Here's what to do: How best to attack spammers without wasting too much time ========================================================= (A personal opinion) Look at the offenders' email address. If it looks like a fake, ignore the message. It will take you too much time to find out where the jerk really is. Remember, the majority of spammers *do* have real email addresses, so attacking *them* is the most productive approach. Email the entire message, including all header info, back to postmaster@the-address-where-it-came-from and/or abuse@the-address-where-it-came-from. Generally, mailing to the 'postmaster' when there is an 'abuse' adress will result in a handwritten or automatic message giving you the right address. You then know what to do next time ;-) As far as my experience goes, here are some valid abuse addresses: abuse@worldnet.att.net abuse@aol.com abuse@support.tiac.net ====> prodigy probably has an abuse address too If your message reader only quotes the body text of the message this isn't enough. To work around this, you generally can save the message as an ASCII file including its 'housekeeping info', then import that ASCII file back into the reply. Change the subject from "Make much money" into "SPAM: Make much money" Accompany the quoted message with a very polite request to take action against the spammer; e.g. something like: Dear Sir/Madam, Could you please undertake action against ....., who is spamming Usenet newsgroups with the following: [QUOTE] -quote message here- [UNQUOTE] Thank you for your cooperation, ..... *Never* reply to a spam in a Usenet newsgroup with another message in that newsgroup - use email. If you reply in the group, you're only adding to the noise. If everybody posts one or two of these anti-spam emails each time he/she reads his mail, this is a very effective approach. The fact that one spam message generates several complaints is just what we need; it keeps the postmasters alert ;-) Bye, Jan --- FleetStreet 1.13 #857 * Origin: * Point van Lighthouse BBS * OS/2 * (2:285/324.15) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 202 CLIPPER Ref: DGU00000 Date: 12/22/96 From: GABRIEL GOMEZ Time: 12:53pm \/To: CARLOS WEISSE (Read 0 times) Subj: Nuevo bbs Carlos Weisse wrote in a message to @all: CW> Nuevo BBS en La Plata, el mismo se llama 021, es gratuito y tiene CW> un area de Clipper muy surtida.
