At the moment, traffic is very light. The previous moderator was gating messages from another net. Since he left Fido and handed this echo over to me, we've seen a substancial drop-off in messages. Hopefully, things will pick up in the future. DM>I think that size is an INDICATOR of quality:)!! Joseph and I were DM>miscommunicating because I thought he was referring to compression DM>sizes!! A very simple IGM with a HUGE exe is always going DM>to make me a tad nervous. Wasted code so often lets in the pesky DM>little critters. However, size is nothing more than an indicator. But one thing you're forgetting is that not all languages compile small. QuickBasic always compiles large executables. Xenon's Town Square is a simple IGM, but the smallest I could get the executable was 135k. On the other hand, if I had programmed it in Pascal or C, I probably could have gotten the executable down to approx. 70k. Just because my IGMs EXE is 135k in QuickBasic doesn't mean that the quality is any different than what it would be if it was 70k in Pascal or C. (BTW, I don't program in Pascal or C, so the size is most likely different than 70k. ) So, find out what language the IGM was written in before judging the quality of the IGM on it's size. * SLMR 2.1a * I'm not a computer nerd; merely a techno-weenie. --- QScan/PCB v1.18b / 01-0186 * Origin: (1:2285/50) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 201 PRO VIDEO Ref: CGS00000 Date: 12/19/95 From: DEREK EDWARDS Time: 04:16pm \/To: TRACY EVANS (Read 7 times) Subj: VHS Editing sys -> 2 Panasonic NV-8500 editing decks with NV-A500 controller for only -> $1000.00 3rd deck option for another $200 -> mail me or call 817-496-4331 Great For Off Line Editing Just wanting to know what all this equipment will do? If anyone has used a video camera to record a person getting up on his/her years I would like to hear from them. I videotaped my grandmother for my mother, and always intended to do another since I didn't prepare well. In other words, I videotaped her at the last moment and didn't think of all the appropriate questions to ask. I asked: who are you? who were your parents? when were you born? where were you raised? where did you go to school? where have you lived? how did you meet your husband? Is he alive? what did he like to do? what did he for for work? how many children did you have? are they alive? where are they now? what are they doing? I think that was it. It was really a short tape, but I didn't want to make a long production out of it. If anyone has done this before, I would like to hear from them. How did you do it? I want to do this again, but for a neighbor who is getting up in her years, and give it to her children. This time, I plan to video the house and ask when this room was built, what was it originally, etc. I also plan to show pictures of her family and ask her who they are. Then I will get a professional to print that on the video for me so it prints out. This is a Christmas present. (yes, late I know, but she wouldn't give me an interview soon enough, so it is as timely as I can make it.) Where did you conduct the interview? Any advice for me? I am so new at this! I would like to better prepare for this this time around, possibly even typing up the questions I will ask so she will know what to expect and form some type of answer. The only graphics I plan to have put on the tape are names of the people shown in pictures. I am trying to be comprehensive and still keep it simple. Any good guidelines so I don't leave things out like I did with my own grandmother would be very nice!! -Robert- --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 201 PRO VIDEO Ref: D1113301 Date: 12/30/95 From: CHAS S CAIRNS Time: 01:17pm \/To: ADRIAN FRIIS (Read 8 times) Subj: Re: need your help Quoting Adrian Friis at 19:46 on 12-21-95 to Chas S RE Re: need your help AF>Chas, if your taping of any new hollywood release, they are AF>bound to have time twister's on them. No, I'm not, Adrian, I'm just playing the ones I buy off the shelf or rent. I know that taping new releases doesn't work, though. I don't have two VCR's, and have never tried it, but I know from others who have. BTW, what is a time twister? And, if I may, why don't audio cassette and CD manufacturers use them?
