I am looking for S-Video in and out, decent quality and under $1K THe PC has yet to be assembled ( a DX4-100 with 16Meg and 1.7Gig hd ) so PCI or VESA is not an issue. I will be running Elastic Reality, Premiere, Hash Animation, POV-ray and I want to be able to dump real-time out to a VCR for doing minimal multi-media tapes I am looking at the miro - anything else out there??? Thanks! When scanning the channels for available stations, ironicly, it picks up channels 40 and up great, but doesn't tune in anything lower. The channels seem to be there, but behind a curtain of noise. I have ensured that it is in cable mode etc. and the lack of info on the subject in the manual tells me that it must be something obvious to the trained eye. I would appreciate any ideas and estimates on what it may cost (if any) to fix. Thanks. BTW, as a VCR it is an awesome unit, all transfer controls and metering are excellent with a crystal clear freeze frame and frame advancing. --- FMail/386 0.98a * Origin: Ground Effects BBS - Vancouver B.C. I have watched TVO's "Succesful Home Video", with Dave Stringer, and I got some good pointers from there, is there any advice you could give me with regards to shooting a weeding? I might ask a friend from the video club to come along and assist with another Camera for more diverse shots, might this be a good idea? > Good luck Thanks! Yes Robin, having a friend along is a very good idea. You'll get twice the coverage. You can intercut the shots your frind gets with yours to make your video more professional. Try to use a tripod in church and it's acceptable to shoot off the sholder for the other events surronding the wedding like the outside shots and of corse the reception. People do funny things at weddings so keep your eyes open and your camera rolling. You can always dump the boring stuff when you cut it. Just keep shooting tape the more you shoot the better you'll get. I make some extra money while I'm home by shooting TV news events for our local TV stations. Some stations pay for good footage if they use it. I listen to a scanner all the time if there is a fire or some major news event in "my" area I grab my camera and I'm there. I usually have the tape the TV[station before the fire department isCfinished cleaning up. It's good experience, if you get to an incident early enough you won't have to worry about dodging police lines. If you get there late obey the police lines and use your zoom lense. Good luck and keep rolling tape. I have a PC Personal Animation Recorder (PAR) The system uses a dedicated IDE hard drive and motion JPEG compresses the individual frames of your animation to the HD. The compression ratio is abt. 10-11 to 1. The system outputs composite S-Video and Component Beta SP or MII. The system will easily hold 20+ minutes of animation. E-mail me if your interested. I think you will find the price is reasonable. erik.green@bigsky.com --- CMPQwk #1.4 UNREGISTERED EVALUATION COPY --- FidoPCB v1.5 beta-'j' * Origin: pC-Montana Manhattan MT FidoNet NEC Satellite Link (1:3400/26) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 201 PRO VIDEO Ref: C5I00000 Date: 05/05/95 From: CAN VU Time: 09:18pm \/To: ROBERT BLAND (Read 7 times) Subj: Re: NAB Hello! I was at NAB. Still great show...like always been! I was not so sure about non-linear editing yet...what format will take over? MPEG+, or MPEG2...or what so ever... My concern: if I buy a non-linear system, will my final product be compatible with another non-linear system? let's say, if Joe Blow has a piece of video (non-linear) stored on a removable HD or any kind of removable media....will I be able to play it on my system? Of course you're gonna ask :can I read a Beta tape on a M-II machine? The answer is NO! and the war between media will keep on going on and on and n... Well just a thought for non-linear system.... I am using right now a MPEG+ system from Scientific Atlanta with B frame...Looks pretty good to me right now. Later! GREAT Hi, Robin I was just cruising by and saw your post. And yes it is possible to go from floor sweeper to a real job. I know because i did it. 2 1/2 years ago I started working for a small production studio here in No. Hollywood Ca. I started out sweeping floors & maintaining equipment. I worked my way up to editing ( The Isreal Today Show ) running camera on a national informercial ( Ingles Sin Barreras ) and doing music videos for some of the local yocals. The key for me was to always be available, and I mean always. Because a lot of smaller production houses use a lot of free lancers who are not always available. If they know you are willing to be there for them they in turn will take the time to train you as a back up for their first string people. But that OK bcause you'll be getting training you could never get in a classroom . Hope this helps. George Marquez --- FLAME v1.0 * Origin: L.A. RP>Hi Dave! >Souds like a good idea, but how would you ever move up from floor sweeper to >real job? Does it ever happen? Please tell me more.. Hi Robin - granted, this is not the "standard" career route if you are in a large corporation where the job descriptions are cast in stone, *BUT* if you are working in a smaller ( more flexible and innovative ) businesses, there will be a lot of opportunity for you to show your interest. If the people there see that you are a "good worker" ie: showing up on time, enthusiastic, willing to learn, etc... they will check you out first when they need someone to fill a position rather than going through the standard employment channels ( unless they need specific skills ) The term for this position is "intern" and it happens a lot in most media positions - recording studios, media production companies etc...
