Do you go over with your camera (SVHS lets say) and record the audio onto a tape using a Mic or do you simply bring an audio recorder (cassette) and record it to that and then plug the output of that into your mixer later? Just curious as to how some of you pro-video'ers do it. Also, does audio sound better when recorded to a SVHS tape in SVHS mode compared to say a standard VHS tape? And last but not least, what are some of the best 3 chip camera's out there that are reasonably priced? I would like something that is a big step up in quality over my Panasonic AG455, but not a big step up in cost. I would eventually be using this with the Video Flyer from newtek so I would like to get some real good quality out of it. Oh, and I was told by somebody that when I read that a SVHS camera displays up to 700 lines of resolution, it is talking about display, and not recording in 700 lines of resolution. Could somebody calrify this for me? I need it powerful enough to nicely illuminate the parts being recorded if the only other light source is coming from outside (no electricity for light bulbs). I would also like to be able to run this off of a belt pack since again there will be no electricity in the house. And how much would a minimal light set-up go for if you wanted to do basic studio shoots with a front light, a flood light, and a back light? Any reccomendations? * Origin: Teen Town BBS - Home of LlanoWare - (805)264-0443 - (1:102/1313) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 201 PRO VIDEO Ref: C1P00003 Date: 01/18/95 From: BRIAN WEST Time: 06:20pm \/To: ANYONE (Read 12 times) Subj: Camera To whom it may concern: I was recently given a Panasonic PK-980. It is an old camera that normally comes with an external VCR. Unfortunately, I was not given anything but the camera. I would like, if possible, a pin-out of the 10-pin DIN on the camera. This would allow me to construct my own power supply/breakout AV box. Thank you in advance for any help. The Sanyo GVR S-950 fits my budget -just- but has no VITC (more important to me than LTC). As far as features, Panasonic's AG 1970 is high enough quality for my nonlinear system. Perhaps there is an outboard reader/writer available? How would it hook up though. Guess not. Anyway, any comments would be appreciated. This makes me feel a bit better about my equipment, but these ads I keep reading about SVHS cameras that record 700 lines of resolution keep taunting me. I need to get one of those. THere are so many different models. > I think the pro's who get the really fuzzy background are taking the > trouble to put some distance between the camera and the subject. Thanks for clearing this up for me. By the way, would you recommend against purchasing a Hi-8 camera if everything else I own is SVHS ? This would open up my options when it came to tape formats. If somebody gave me some footage I wanted to use on a Hi-8 tape, I would need to get it dubbed (1 more generation loss) to SVHS before I could use it. If I had both SVHS decks and a camera, along with a Hi-8 camera, I could just pop the footage into the camera and run the video through one of the SVHS decks (S-video) and into my toaster for editing, without noticable video loss, correct? I would like to hear your opinion on such a practice. -Manny | AmiQWK 2.7 | UNREGISTERED EVALUATION COPY - SUPPORT THE SHAREWARE CONCEPT ... * Origin: Teen Town BBS - Home of LlanoWare - (805)264-0443 - (1:102/1313) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 201 PRO VIDEO Ref: C1Q00001 Date: 01/19/95 From: MANUEL COATS Time: 03:52pm \/To: KIERAN FINNEY (Read 11 times) Subj: Non-Linear > As far as features, Panasonic's AG 1970 is high enough quality for my > nonlinear system. I own two of the 1970's, and I also will be going non-linear hopefully in the next month or so (Video Flyer). I was thinking of upgrading the 1970 toa little higher end deck, but since there would be no generation loss from the original footage, I am questioning whether this would even be necessary. Would you have any comments on this? I'm shooting on a Panasonic AG455 camera (the 1970's companion camera). If I need to do A/B rolls it also has a driver for my Panasonic AG-455 to act as a third (playback) deck. Slow, but nice transitions. I am very pleased with it now. Back in the early days there were a few bugs that drove me crazy but for the most part I love it. I havn't seen anything anywhere near it for price / performance.
