With prices being as exorbitant as they are over here, I'm left with the Tascam DA-20 MkII and the Sony PCM-R300 to choose from. Have any of you had any experience with these machines or can even compare them? bye .... Joe --- * Origin: F.A.T.C. It supposed to mix 2 video sources, add graphics from the computer and is supposed to help with sound too. Does anybody have any information on this card? I first encountered this product at Infocomm in June and I liked what I saw. This week, I finally got the demo reel and promo tape from Digital and I am becoming increasingly interested in "picking one up." Any comments, suggestions, or advice? Is there any truth to the rumor that most stations > were wired with AC current AND 24volt DC current? Yes and No... Some stations used shared 24 volt power supplies, most relied on the 24 volt supply built into major components like VTR's and Camera Control Units... What was this voltage for ??? Tally lights, illuminated switches and relay logic. Typical camera tally used a pair of 12 volt automotive type lamps, illuminated panels and switchers used a _bunch_ of 327 or 387 aircraft lamps rated at 28 volts. > If so, what amperage was the 24volts at? I have an old film chain that > uses 24volt DC for its control panel, but a 24v power supply is not > supplied. Somebody may have swiped it for another project... Something in the range of 5 - 6 amps ought to be plenty, at 24 volts that's more than 100 watts. Don't be afraid to scrounge around electronic surplus houses for a Lambda style 'brick' switching supply instead of a boatanker linear... Sometimes you can find a 10 amp unit _real_ cheap because it was built for a single 'weird' voltage like 18 volts. Crank it up to 20ish. Your panel won't care and the lamps will last a little longer. --- DB 1.58/002106 * Origin: Midnight Micro! * Broken Arrow, OK * (1:170/600) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 201 PRO VIDEO Ref: BES00002 Date: 10/21/94 From: MIKE CHRISTIAN Time: 06:28am \/To: ALL (Read 14 times) Subj: M II I was wondering how many of you folks use Panasonic or JVC M-II on a regular basis? I recently changed jobs - I used to work for a pro video house dealer that did NOT sell M-II, so we naturally pushed Beta-Cam (in all its incarnations, Beta, Beta-Lite and Beta-UltraLite - the BVW, PVW, and UVW series). I now do some work for a guy that does sell M-II (as well as Beta) and is pretty gung-ho about it. I know M-II got off to a shakey start, had some serviceability/reliability problems, but that is supposed to be all better now. Is it? I would also like to hear from engineers who maintain this stuff (since that's what I do for a living too). How do you rate the reliability and serviceability of M-II to Beta, or even to 3/4 SP? This house has an AXIAL editor (approx $133K), and I was looking for some feedback from other users of this system. I had never seen or heard of these folks before (except for print ads), and was very impressed with its capabilities. This installation also uses a pair of real-time read/write disks that allow up to several minutes of real-time video storage, so they can actually do effects using two segments on the same tape! IOW, you can do an A/B wipe (for example) using two segments on the A reel. This house uses D-2 and digital Beta machines, a Chyron Maxine, and a BTS switcher (BTS made him a sweeter deal than Grass I guess). The switcher has 11 Aux busses, all under Editor control. The fella that owns all these neat toys firmly believes that TV has evolved almost to its highest format (as far as tape machines go), that of component digital. Digital BetaCam and Panasonics D-5 series seem to be in this category, are there any other component digital (as opposed to composite digital) systems out there?
