I don't know the term. Hey Rich! Sorry about being out of touch recently, been working on a demo for a drummer trying to get into school. Also been working real hard on my demo for the game/broadcast media people. New monitors haven't arrived yet but you'll be first to know. Just got 2 new phantom powered condensers (30-20k) that sound great. Also found out that I was running a little too hot into my Dat which is -10db while my board is +4db. This had a big effect on the tone! While the dat was never anywhere near overload on the meters, the tone was impaired pretty drastically. As for the switching box, I just need the jacks on the back, and the toggles on the front. This box will be Rack Mounted. I figure one toggle for each channel (right, left), Heres the beef: Mc2300 stereo in (2 mono 1/4" jacks, each jack to its respective toggle), then two jacks on each toggles respective taps (center off), so I can switch between either -Pair- of speakers. Crippleware is just a slang term for shareware software that is not fully functional until you register it and receive the software -key- from the author. This way you can get an idea of how the program works before you buy it, but the author is not giving you anything usable for free. Thus it is crippled by the author. In the sound mix, the room tone will be looped and slipped in under the rest of the mix, especially when sound effects and dialogue are added later in a dead-sounding studio. ... Tony, it may be that the review was accurate. But I'm always suspicious of general-interest computer magazines making comments about "pro" audio and video systems. To me, a pro magazine is one that has interviews with and columns by people who make most or all of their living by professionally working in a particular field. Mix, Post, AV Video, Film & Video, American Cinematographer are examples of pro magazines about media production. These people have been selecting the right microphones and lenses for decades in order to make a presentation that will show off a story at its best in front of an audience of millions. When that kind of magazine has information about computer equipment for sound processing, I think we have a great information resource. However, when a PC magazine has a PC-system reviewer commenting about pro audio, I have to wonder whether or not there's any knowlege behind that opinion. In the same way that I'd question the ability of a general magazine to report on the best system for tracking lawsuits or changing race car tires, I question their ability to report on the best system for pro audio. ...
