I was watching the Conneaut Audio Designs company because they have a really nice console design and I lust after one. Some of my pals on the PAN network then mentioned that they had tried and bought the E200s and were impressed. My E200 hasn't much of the "character" of a 20-y.o. Neumann, but is at least as transparent as an AKG 414 and less harsh. I paid well under $500 (after shopping around the country by phone & email). Since the E200 has a bass roll-off, 20 db pad and 3 patterns, it is a much better value than the AT 4033 at a very similar, if not better, price. I recommend the E200 for personal, home or 'project' studios that can only afford one large-diaphragm condenser mic. Oh, yes, the E200 comes with 2 internal batteries and can run on phantom power also. And it handles very high SPL, IME.... steveV --- Maximus 2.02 * Origin: From Indianapolis - SBE 25/Crossroads Broadcast BBS (1:231/310) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 200 PRO AUDIO Ref: C1U00002 Date: 01/17/95 From: STEVE V JOHNSON Time: 10:44pm \/To: ALL (Read 13 times) Subj: FS: 2" 16trk & more For Sale: 3M M56 2" 16-trk recorder w/remote & new MRL alignment tape. VL> Thanks, WaveSE for Windows will do two pertinent functions, one being speed up/slowdown (which changes pitch) and time compress/expand (which does just what the broadcast units do for crunching time without altering pitch). Turtle Beach has Quad software for mixing 4 channels of sound and doing sound on sound/sound with sound recording too. It requires a Turtle Beach audio card for the Quad software. I've had our TEST TAPES played in other RK> studios, to get opinions and advice. Some of them Can't Believe that RK> these are DRY. No Effects! The Sonics and Room Image are Really RK> "IN THERE". It took a Lot of Time and Playing with the Mics. I'd have to agree with them. I'm trained as a producer and engineer, and have heard both terrible, and great recordings - in and out of the recording studio. I think the skill of the techs is more important than quality of the room and equipment. A good tech can make a good recording almost anywhere. Also, when mic'ing live, you do get the sound of the room you are recording in, so in fact, your recording's not really "Dry". The studio inherently sounds dry because of the intentional low reverb design. I heard an album done by Jack Richardsons son, Garth, down in L.A. They used a remote truck, and recorded from a basement. That album sounds as good, if not better than alot of studio recordings. RK> The Only Negative Comments we have gotten so far is that, "People are RK> so used to the Processed Recordings, That they will think there is RK> something WRONG with Yours". This is very true...too many recordings are heavily processed, with artificially generated sounds. Most of the processing done in a recording studio will go un-noticed by the uneducated listener, which is a good majority of the population. But the good news is, natural recordings are becoming a much sought after product. There are a new bunch of purists with a great appreciation for well-recorded, natural sounding recordings. If you are capable of doing great sounding recordings out of the recording studio, your talents would be much sought after by independants who want high quality, without paying the big bucks that go along with it. * AmyBW v2.11 * ... I'd be really appreciative..... My advice...if you want pro audio, forget the sound blaster. It's hardly industry spec. I would suggest looking into the DigiDesign product line, as their products are used by many major people in the music industy. I personally have had the opportunity to use one of their systems, and it is outstanding. The session 8 is excellent if you wish more than 2 or 4 track simultaneous I/O. Mind you, they're not exactly cheap products, but well worth the extra cash. There is a great deal of support for these products. * AmyBW v2.11 * ... I support drug tests.
