Unfortunately a lot of people in his generation bought into the fluff that FDR/JFK/LBJ sold them so they didn't invest anything themselves. My parents are the same way, they always thought their pension plan and social security would cover them in their old age. Of course now that they have retired they have discovered they can live on it but that's about it.
