They don't. As I've said, yes, I hate my job, but who doesn't, and I don't really expect to be making $10 an hour the rest of my life. But that is inconsequential, when I see people at work who are twice my age or even thrice my age, being a janitor, getting ripped off by their boss, etc. You might say, "ah, those people just have a bad attitude" or whatever other feel-good crap you think will make you free, but the fact is that someone will always be the janitor, someone will always work the crap jobs so you don't have to think about it. A large group of people will *always* be poor, because that's the way it *must* be. Maybe it won't be me, then again, maybe it will be. I'll tell you this, if and when I do make enough money to not be struggling, I certainly won't rub it in everyone else's face, telling them how much smarter and what a harder worker I am. I will be able to see it for what it is. --- FMail 1.22 * Origin: #thepublicistoblame#.subversivetelecom.OHiO (1:226/580.5) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 198 ASK A COP Ref: F4400015 Date: 04/02/98 From: RYAN BAGUEROS Time: 09:51pm \/To: RON TAYLOR (Read 1 times) Subj: competition & co-operatio Quoting Ron Taylor from a message to Ryan Bagueros RT> those that choose to work less. In a nutshell, how do you feel RT> about the proposition that given equal opportunity, two people with RT> different ambitions can indeed have more or less "riches" than the RT> other? This is a hypothetical question based on the supposition that Yes - I can see that. I like that idea - say, two people with similar backgrounds are each given a computer, and they must figure out how to code a particular program, and they go to town. Whoever is the most determined, most innovative, is the "winner." On the other hand, there is something to say about two determined people working together to produce something of higher quality.. But that *rarely* is the case in real life. Too often, there are people who get much farther ahead doing little to no work - and I'm not talking about welfare recipients. What about a person who works their butt off to pay rent, pay for food, and put themselves through a 2-year technical program, and end up being a network administrator? And then what about the person whose father puts them through college, they breeze through with a C average and a bunch of beer every night, rent and food paid, and they end up landing a much better job? This happens far more often than some "freeloader" getting welfare benefits. But you never hear anyone say anything about that, in fact, put the two people together and more often than not the typical middle-class person would think the rich kid was a better example of the perfect american. I think that when money is the motivator (or, as someone else on this echo would say, greed) you end up with what you went after - someone either good at marketing (i.e. lying) or someone who had money to begin with (most likely, from their parents). What if heart was more important than how you dress at the interview? What if a _true desire_ to get a job done was more important than where you went to school? --- FMail 1.22 * Origin: #thepublicistoblame#.subversivetelecom.OHiO (1:226/580.5) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 198 ASK A COP Ref: F4400016 Date: 04/02/98 From: RYAN BAGUEROS Time: 09:54pm \/To: CAROL SHENKENBERGER (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: racism in amerikkka Quoting Carol Shenkenberger from a message to Ryan Bagueros CS> issue so that only the rightness of the action is the issue. Dont CS> _assume_ because the cop may have been white, and the person shot CS> may have been black, thatracism is part of the shooting. That CS> vision of it perpetuates racism. But it is wrong to assume that it is not racism. Racism is psychological and subtle. If a white cop shoots a black youth, how much of it is in the cop's head? How much of it is seeing a young black man and seeing a swaggering rap star? Americans have a very negative imagine implanted in their head about black males - and that factor is crucial in times of stress or when you have to act on a gut instinct. Acting on impulse means acting without rationality a lot of the times - and that means relying on a knee-jerk, racist idea. Even if the cop is not "racist" - has black friends, etc. - perhaps the shooting was racially motivated. --- FMail 1.22 * Origin: #thepublicistoblame#.subversivetelecom.OHiO (1:226/580.5) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 198 ASK A COP Ref: F4400017 Date: 04/02/98 From: RYAN BAGUEROS Time: 09:55pm \/To: CAROL SHENKENBERGER (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: STREET PEOPLE Quoting Carol Shenkenberger from a message to Ryan Bagueros CS> So propose another. The civil court finds one party 90% at fault and the other 10% at fault. So one pays $900 and the other pays $100. I don't think that "at fault" would mean much, especially if the other party was 50% or more at fault. However, guilt or innocence is determined in criminal court, not civil court. The same would be true of other circumstances where an officer needed assistance from a citizen and there were reasonable grounds to indicate a duty on the citizen's part to provide that assistance.
