Without trial >Without proof and without the commission of a crime by other than >themselves. JF>That is my complaint. JF>In the real world the police have to prove their case >In the School world the gesteapho has no such requirement. I understand your position on this; but I would point out that the situation is not "apples and apples". The problem in a school is not so much getting a "conviction" as protecting the kids. Whether the tablet was harmless or not is not the issue. The issue is that an unsuspecting child could accept and be harmed from one of these innocent looking tablets offered by a fellow student innocently or maliciously. I for one would want my children to be protected. These guys can do a marvelous job in finding holes, lack of disclosure, self surving maskink of facts and determining the true nature and suitability for public law enforcement and they do itt on the taxpayers back so cvan be quite thorough. still the abusers, the miscreants and those obviously unsuited for the day to day operations get through and hired. Personal interviews would go far beyond checking only those references the applicant submit to "see" the overall picture. A GOLDEN refrences list iscommonly seen as "the tip of the iceberg" But then again, maybe nobody ever made records of your indiscretions. In following your posts and tribulations with the law I could see where you would be classified by both employer and LE agencies as a person nedding supervision. You are doing this to yourself. LE has many people that seek the badge and the gunthat are unsuited. IMHO you would at this point fit in this group.I kinda figure your supervisor/employer has numerous pieces of paper in your personal file, some good and some bad. --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: UltraTech - Nashville, TN (615)356-0453 {V.34/V.FC} (1:116/30) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 198 ASK A COP Ref: F3E00079 Date: 03/09/98 From: JOHN F DAVIS Time: 01:05pm \/To: NEAL GODFREY (Read 1 times) Subj: mike mccann MM> Public schools are a mess due to a fedral mandated crosstown bussing MM> system. It's MM> worth paying the price for the neighborhood I've always felt that if your child is being bussed cross town in order that the school can receive federal grant monies. Rich, I think that you have managed to discuss a couple of isolated problems that make zero tolerance programs in a SCHOOL less than perfect, but I don't think you've made your case to the extent that many would be ready to abandon these SCHOOL programs. I doubt that you have even convinced many parents that the specific rules you are talking about need to be thrown out in a SCHOOL program. School programs are fairly easy to change. A simple petition to the school board is usually all that is required. Comparing a SCHOOL program to LAW ENFORCEMENT programs is like comparing grapes and watermelons. I'll leave it to your imagination as to which entity is the grape. Your first problem would be finding a significant number of people who share your opinion about SCHOOL programs.
