NG> A few days after my arrest some of the key teenagers involved in the NG> incident came by to apologize for any trouble that they caused. That NG> SHOCKED me like you wouldn't believe!!! Hopefully that will be a once in a lifetime experience. I share your thoughts about not wanting to shoot a kid, but this is becoming an unfortunate nightmare for officers more and more often. See if that is what KA> you intended: KA> The Police Department may announce that there will be Zero Tolerance KA> as respects the laws relating to drug dealers/users, drunk drivers, KA> prostitution, etc. It does not necessarily say that there will be KA> zero tolerance of ANY infraction. They may tie these announcements KA> to specific areas, as well as to specific offenses. I would KA> suspicion that, even in a zero tolerance situation that most officers KA> would still apply some common sense and reasoning to the facts at KA> hand. You understand the concept perfectly. There is no use of school policies and no new laws, just a zero in on a specific problem in a concentrated manner. I might add that many of the advertised, major campaigns are usually crowd pleasers in terms of the good citizens getting what they want to the limit of the law. Some of the campaigns I remember the best involved areas completely out of control, areas some would call a war zone or an impact area. There are some areas like this in some cities that are not patrolled at night by the police because of damaged or destroyed police cars and injury or death to police officers. I know this is hard to believe, but some of these areas require a tactical team before a response can be made. We feel fortunate that we don't have any areas like this in Lawton, Oklahoma.
