Jerry, my hat is off to you and your volunteers. Your program is probably such a great success because of you and other great people just like you. We also have a great volunteer program in Lawton, Oklahoma called the Sentinels. Citizens are waiting in line to volunteer their time to go to school at night and become Sentinels. There are plenty of folks in most cities and towns who are willing to help in many ways. Plenty of folks take pride in their communities and are involved in the safety and security of themselves and their families. Some of our best volunteers have been in their 50's, 60's, 70's, and even 80's. Jerry, more power to you, hang in there! Tom Rightmer - A Victims' Rights Advocate ... SA> One of my callers admitted her feelings about cops, "They SA> are a lot like bumblebees, you are happy they are there, SA> just keep them away from me." I remember her now. She was a 16 year old girl who complained about some problem her brother was having with the local cops. She explained part of the problem and asked for opinions from everyone here. She also complained that no one gave it enough time to get to know her brother, just assuming he was "trouble" because he dressed like Marilyn Manson, makeup and all. She got straight answers, but was not happy with them. Every question she asked was answered properly and honestly by those who answered, both LEO and non LEO. The one "quote" from her that sticks out in my mind was in a response to a statement about not blaming the cops for everything. She said:"But I am 16 years old. I am supposed to hate cops." *** No Steve, she was not mistreated here. She was treated like an adult, but she was not mature enough to accept that. And again, I am not in Law Enforcement. If this is the same person, she didn't like the guilt TR> by association problem and fired off some fairly rude messages to TR> several users of the echo. I don't remember if the discussion involved TR> a LEO or not, but I think she got a couple of fairly blunt replies Tom, If that's the one, I well recall that incident. I am not a LEO, and I recall sending her at least a couple of messages on the same tone that you mentioed. Without digging back through the archives, I'd guess you are talking about the case where the caller, a female, was asking for advice on how to deal with her brother's involvement in a traffic accident. A pedestrian had been injured and while no arrest had been made, an investigation was under way. The lady was concerned that her brother would be arrested when, in her opinion, he had done no wrong. And in that isolated case, I'd have to agree with you. The manner that at least one LEO responded IMO was totally out of line. This particular individual is a certain Canadian officer who takes that stance with practically every civilian query. Because of his attitude and manner of posting, he has drawn fire on numerous occasions from LEO's, non-LEO's, AND moderators. He hasn't been around in a few weeks. Yes, you DO get an attitude from time to time, but in the long run, this forum has been and continues to be one of the best civilian/LEO interface media that I've ever seen. --- * QMPro 1.02 42-7029 * He does the work of 3 Men...Moe, Larry & Curly --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: CrimeBytes:Take A MegaByte Out Of Crime!
