--------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 197 EMERGENCY Ref: E5P00004 Date: 05/18/97 From: STAN SMITH Time: 12:00pm \/To: JASON LOW (Read 0 times) Subj: Rigs -> I don't mean to make this out to be a flame, but what are you people -> doing with all these strobes? How does your electrical system stand up? -> Our emergency (basically the same as an ambulance) has eight flashing -> lights (as in conventional red-lensed lamps) on the box, two flashers on -> the grille, and a standard (and really old) 4-motor, 8-light lightbar. -> (*OLD* Code 3, I think) Our remaining rigs (pump, engine, tank, squad, -> etc) are all standard - a regular light bar on the roof (these ones are -> newer Force 4 lightbars, though), two flashers on the grille, and two -> rotating beacons on the top rear. These work fine for us. Hell, even my -> POV's DashLaser with nothing else is enough. What do you need 23 strobe -> lights for? -> Jay -> derran@revenge.cuug.ab.ca -> * Origin: deltaBoard [403-949-3015] www.fumbling.com/dr/ (1:134/242) Oh you are not flaming at all I guess.. non took any how.. Yes they have electrical problems every now and then but there is no question about seeing those rigs coming at you at night.. you can see those lights bouncing off building before you even see the ambulances coming at you.. You refured to fire rigs.. shot we have some trucks in this county that have full light bars on front with small light bars on both sides then four strobe in the front grill and strobes on the side of the trucks then have two small light bars on the back of the unit and two strobes in the back of the unit.. talk about a christmas tree on wheels.. Our 911 EMS is looking at buying some of those BIG RIGS.. why I don't know but they say they will last longer and is better equiped to handle a big disaster.. I really don't think that in a disaster that it is going to matter if the rigs are busy on other calls and they have to turn it over to the private services (NOT IN THIS COUNTY) !! Ford Supermedic ?? Is that the one from McCoy Miller ?? Well thinks again for writting back and hope to hear from you soon !! --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: Greenville Sheriff's Office BBS 864/467-5864 (1:3639/30) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 197 EMERGENCY Ref: E5T00000 Date: 05/22/97 From: ROBERT WILKIN Time: 08:55am \/To: GARY SAFFER (Read 0 times) Subj: EMT CLASS .-=Robert Wilkin said to Gary Saffer on 05-19-97=-. > I don't work for AMR, in fact I don't even work for a private, for > which > I feel really fortunate. However, I have noticed since AMR has moved > into this area in a big way that the remaining privates do seem to be > holding their own. It seems that some clients just don't like the way .-=End of Quote=-. That is very true around here, too. AMR is just TOO big, and they seem to have more of a "corporate" attitude, which many people don't like. Our company is a not-for-profit company, and because of that, we have been able to maintain our highest priority as our service to the community, not how much money we can make. AMR is starting to lose a LOT of contracts to us in this area, mostly due to the quality of care they provide to the various cities.
