Hope somebody's writing all this stuff down. .........but I thought YOU!? Seriously, I used to archive this echo daily..... but when it got to 36 MEGS I had to stop. Then it became obvious that Jean Hart was NEVER gonna get out of our hair, and I deleted the whole ball of wax. Now that Jean's gone and hard drive space is cheap, I'm kicking myself. ^..^ --- FidoPCB v1.5 beta-'j' * Origin: BOO! A crew of a military cargo jet collared a bovine found => wandering around the airfield and loaded it on board for a later => feast. Seems the beast did not take kindly to the trip to the => hamburger factory and ran amok while cruising at 30,000 feet. The => crew could not control the unrestrained animal and lowered the => cargo ramp allowing it to jump out. => Gee. After unceremoniously exiting the aircraft from that altitude, I wonder if the cow broke Mach 1 on the way down. They have one C-8 => => euqipped with the jet engine (J-34?) on top that appeared to be operational. => The one Lockheed 18?, probably is ex-RCAF. Might have been a Beechcraft Expeditor. They used to call them Bug Smashers, because that's about all the speed you could get out of one. I recall hearing reports of Bug Smashers getting bug strikes on the trailing edges too...... :-) Ken >> 1-12-5-16-9-2-13-6-17-10-3-14-7-18-11-4-15-8 << --- PBNet v1.91 #5 * Origin: T.A.S. Lomg time no type! Good to see yez! => Hello Elvis: How have you been? I have had a ton of trouble with securing a stable link to this echo, so E-mail has been the way of late. I attended the Dayton, Ohio airshow and Trade Show last weekend. It is the annual Boy's Weekend away; 13th year for me now. Re the Trade Show: the level of computerization and sophistication of various aircraft components which are going to be released lately is indeed amazing. More thrust from less fuel, virtually frictionless bearings, to name a few, are what P & W and Rolls Royce are advancing with their oil burners. Hope you've been well Elvis. I had asked him about shutting down 2 engines during their loiter time, and he told me it was only of marginal gain in most cases. Apparently, pulling the power well back on all 4 engines is almost as economical as FX-ing 2 and running the power up on the remaining 2. The endurance king of ASW work in Maritime Command was the Argus; The TC's could be pulled back until specific fuel consumption was .38 pounds. Hence the 28+ hour unrefuelled endurance with all 4 grinders running. Ken >> 1-12-5-16-9-2-13-6-17-10-3-14-7-18-11-4-15-8 << --- PBNet v1.91 #5 * Origin: T.A.S.
