Hmmm, maybe the Client32 stuff, but I run VLMs straight from the floppy every day. I DO use a different floppy to boot though, it has a menu in config.sys that let's me choose between: XMS + caching, just XMS, or bare DOS. I use th first for normal stuff and the last when I need to fdisk a drive, after which DOS will reboot. The second I use when I download a diskimage from the server with Ghost as Ghost accesses the disk directly and doesn't use caching. I missed the first part. Why can't you boot VLM's off floppy? I do it all the time. Only need about 650K on the floppy, even with the TCPIP stuff. With DOS 6.22 I get 600K free even with TCPIP and expanded memory enabled. This makes a fine remote boot image. I'm having less success with Win95 though, I can boot it off stiffy OK, but my Win95 remote boot is unreliable at this stage. The information in the Win95 resource kit is completely wrong. --- msgedsq 2.0.5 * Origin: The point of know return, Cape Town, RSA. We have the disk sitting at work waiting for the supplier to pick it up. The only time I remember seeing the firmware version displayed was at boot-up before even DOS gets started, although there may other ways to get that information. --- msgedsq 2.1 * Origin: Camelot Swamp MJCNA, Hawthorndene, Sth Australia (3:800/812) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: EES00019 Date: 10/23/97 From: CHRIS STEVENS Time: 07:56am \/To: JAY DICKINSON (Read 3 times) Subj: Re: dumb question JD> About how often should one consider running vrepair on a 3.11 server?
