We've just installed an Intel Netport XL (secondhand), and I upgraded the software last night. The aim is to enable controlling which tray is selected on an HP Laserjet 5MP, which is not available with the printer directly plugged into the LPT port on our NW 3.12 machine. Any suggestions on how to configure the Netport XL welcomed. --- msgedsq 2.1 * Origin: Camelot Swamp MJCNA, Hawthorndene, Sth Australia (3:800/812) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: ED500003 Date: 09/04/97 From: ARTHUR MARSH Time: 01:01am \/To: ALL (Read 3 times) Subj: Win '95 / NT as clients Hi, can anyone refer me to guides on using either Win '95 or Windows NT as clients of NW 3.12 and how to effectively give users the ability to log on from different machines, minimise the amount of things that need to be backed up off the local machines, and use the same applications without having to have multiple copies of the full apps installed anywhere? Both W95 and NT come with clients for NetWare. Novell also has it's own 32-bit client that you can download from their website. See if Microsoft's client does everything for you before trying the Novell one, though... This MAY be wrong -- I have little experience with the Netports, much more experience with the JetDirect cards -- however -- Netware doesn't choose hich tray the paper comes out of, neither does the Netport. The way you choose which tray to print from is from the workstation you are printing from. For example, for my LJ-4 I can print to either the upper or lower tray by selecting the corresponding option in Windows. Netware queue's don't format your data, and they don't prep it for the appropriate printer, all a print queue does is hold the information that it s given from the workstation. In that information is the command to print to the upper or lower tray. I didn't set up the network initially, but I've been taking care of it since shortly after it was stood up, and I did add the 3rd and 4th drives myself (about 2 years apart), both on a secondary controller. Nothing special required, I did have to add another instance of the IDE driver to setup the secondary controller, but that was the only boot configuration change involved. Other than that, I simply hooked it up, loaded install from the server prompt, and added the additional volume. Then, of course, I added mappings to the new volume within the system login script to make use of it. Piece of cake, actually, and my netware knowledge comes solely from the experience of managing this network and the purchase of the book, Using Netware 3.12. kabrams@erols.com * RM 1.3 03106 * --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: BBS Networks @ bbsnets.com 301-863-5089 (1:2612/10) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: EDB00001 Date: 09/06/97 From: SCOTT PARKS Time: 02:41pm \/To: ARTHUR MARSH (Read 3 times) Subj: Win '95 / NT as clients Arthur Marsh wrote in a message to all: AM> Hi, can anyone refer me to guides on using either Win '95 or AM> Windows NT as clients of NW 3.12 and how to effectively give AM> users the ability to log on from different machines, AM> minimise the amount of things that need to be backed up off AM> the local machines, and use the same applications without AM> having to have multiple copies of the full apps installed AM> anywhere? No guides but I just did a server install of 95 *and* Office 95 figured out how to work from a server drive easily. I was originally concerned about keeping workstations small for rebuilding purposes since they are used by a different student every hour. We have less than 200k on the local drive with the MS client. Any help much appreciated. novell 3.11 only supports tcp/ip in monitor mode. you have to buy the novell router software package for tcp/ip,then you will able to route tcp/ip through the server's cards.
