Well, actually, to be technical about it, 802.3 is also an IEEE standard, but it refers to communication at the DataLink layer, where 802.2 refers to the Physical and DataLink layers. 802.3 can't be implemented by itself; it needs a Physical layer protocol (such as 802.2 or 802.5) to work with it. None of this is to be confused with Novell's ETHERNET_802.2 or ETHERNET_802.3 protocol types... Hi All, Has anyone ever come across processes going to sleep? One of our servers recently came up with an error telling us that the Kernel detected process No. 01 going to sleep and it wasn't allowed? After we stopped laughing and got up off the floor we thought we better look into it, not much fun when you have to drive half way across town to a remote server thats gone to sleep ;) James Horizon Online --- Beemail 0.252 beta / C2B5EB30 / Excalibur Plugin * Origin: Horizon Online System +61 77 282396 (3:640/732) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: ECX00000 Date: 08/26/97 From: MALCOLM MILES Time: 08:35pm \/To: TONY TOEWS (Read 2 times) Subj: Accessing RPRINTER from Win 95? LPT1 and 2 locally sounds good, but I still have a problem with the physical LPT's. Which port would the laser on the server have to be comnnected to in this case? Or does it matter? My lack of knowledge shows but are we capturing actual printer ports or print queues. There is no LPT3 on the server at present. I suspect our Mercury SMTP is being abused since I'm seeing lots of passthrough mail in the logs. The boys in NZ say that is very hard to control Mercury and suggest we reconfigure to have all mail come through Sendmail on the HP3000 at our district office. Before we try that I'm wondering if there is anything else out there that might work locally for us. I realize Linux might work but am not sure I'm ready for that. I have a copy of MS Proxy Server but don't know how that might work with mail. Any ideas?
