If and when a PCI bus machine is purchased for our NW 3.12 server, I'm considering running a couple of dedicated 100 Mbit/s connections using something like SMC's 9334 dual fast ethernet cards for a couple of heavy use IPX-only machines, and either providing a dedicated 10/100 Mbit/s link between the UnixWare 1.1.2 (eventually UW 2.1.X) machine and the NW 3.12 machine or connecting the UW 1.1.2 machine and other IP/IPX LAN clients to an ethernet switch and get minimal latency within the LAN. --- msgedsq 2.1 * Origin: Camelot Swamp MJCNA, Hawthorndene, Sth Australia (3:800/812) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: EAH00004 Date: 06/12/97 From: ARTHUR MARSH Time: 05:06pm \/To: MIKE BILOW (Read 3 times) Subj: W95 clients On Mon 09 Jun at 23:47 Mike Bilow (1:323/107) wrote to Walter Schulz: MB> Walter Schulz wrote in a message to Jeff Dunlop: WS> 2.11 problems were: WS> Login script hangs while executing external programs WS> (but only when leading blanks exists) MB> What kind of network card were you using? Switch backup products? Switch to ECC memory? I'm willing ot suggest the problem may be bad memory. I've seen cases where the server is fine and so are backup, until a certain area of memory is touched by backups and bingo, down comes the server. You might consider using SBACKUP that comes with Netware. I know, no bells and whistles. Price is right however. framsey@goodyear.com; frank.ramsey@fallsbbs.com - CNE, CNA-4, PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: EAI00002 Date: 06/12/97 From: FRANK RAMSEY Time: 10:22pm \/To: GERRY DANEN (Read 3 times) Subj: Re: REALLY NEAT! If a workstation has files open and doesn't close them, they are automatically closed when the server dismounts the volume. Which may lead to some corruption. And is the reason the server sends a message out that says the server is going down in xx minutes (configurable from 2 to 60); to give folks a chance to logoff smoothly. framsey@goodyear.com; frank.ramsey@fallsbbs.com - CNE, CNA-4, PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: EAI00003 Date: 06/11/97 From: RICHARD SPARKS Time: 07:14am \/To: CHARLES MILLER (Read 3 times) Subj: W95 Thanks,I am getting ready to change. dick --- TMail v1.31.5 * Origin: MultiSystem * Cincinnati, OH * 513-231-7013 * (1:108/205) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: EAI00004 Date: 06/13/97 From: KOLTOGYAN@CBSD.DONETSK.UA Time: 04:18pm \/To: ALL (Read 3 times) Subj: Unknown Error when starting MWAAgent on 16:18:2406/13/97 2:465/10.128@fidonet.org X-RealName: "koltogyan" I want use NDS for administration NT Domen and Nw4.1. Reference your message, GD>>Cool. How does it handle client server applications? How does it close GD>>them out? Client/Server applications are normally based on SQL engines. And, such engines have a fabiulous feature called RollBack. Once, the databas(s) are shut down abnormally, the engines once started, will rollback and check all uncompleted (or uncommitted) transactions to get the database integrity back again. Regards.
