Whew! A few at a time please! First, it is not apparent to me how most of your questions would relate to the problem (which is not a problem at the moment because we have an automated PURGE /ALL running every night). Ver 3.12. 32 meg, two 4 gig HD-mirrored. 50% free. Don't know btrieve version (typing at home now). Latest (at the time) patches were installed about Jul 96. I don't know if only btrieve files are corrupted. I do network support, but not Macola internals. Looked for the proper SET function, but didn't see it...only a quick look, though. Will find it. Even finding this, and setting a shorter hold duration as a workaround, still won't explain WHY this is happening, i.e., what is going on in Netware that it can't manage this? Backups will never be skimped on a network I manage; differentials are done M-Th night, full on Fri night. I would never recommend a new server in such a case (since we have implemented a workaround procedure that prevents the problem) until I understood the problem, knew that it was not correctable on the existing server, and that a new server was the only way to solve it. If your referring to closing a DOS box for an external program in the script, yes that is already closed. I have been checking around to varies sources and this seems to be a rare thing, but others have seen it. Each said that for some reason theirs started working after tinkering with the registery. So, I took one of the broke machines and a good one, and redid the part of the registery for networks and windows-software-networks and now it has been working perfectly for that last two days. I don't know which setting fixed it, but I will try the other broke machine next week. I wouldn't advise playing around with the registery unless you know what your doing, but I was getting ready to do a "FORMAT C:", so it didn't matter if I messed it up. Thanks. JEN ... CD-Vision based CD-ROM servers provide a "Virtual" volume which takes *ALL* the CD-ROM disks and makes them available with *ONE* drive mapping with the volume label becomming the first level sub-directory. CD-Vision is a product of Ornetix in San Jose, CA, USA. > I'm also concerned about the towers abilily to handle multiple > requests for information and if you felt your system performance has > changed due to increased traffic on the network from CD-Reads. Since our primary use of the CD-ROM server is ON-LINE archiving, it's not a problem. On the other hand, we play a network game with the game CD in the CD rom server with 8 players! As long as everyone reads from roughly the same area, the CD cache in the server works quite well! However, if different people are all over the disk, it can get pretty bad! In addition, if there is a changer involved and users access two CD's in the same changer at the same time, the "change" time could also be a problem! Oh - above I said "on-line" archiving.... Even though it's "archived", there's someone EVERY DAY needing to access something archived. But since it's so accessable, the criteria for what's archived also changed from when the archiving was done to tape (thus no longer on-line).
