Since I run a BBS and a changer (7disc), it gets hard to have to remap the drive letters to a particular CDROM. Is there something I can get thats inexpensive that will retain the mappings even if the CD's dismount (thats when I change them to put a differnet one in) so I will not have to contend with remapping the drive letter on all the nodes. Maybe I am BB> wrong altogeather.... :((( Yes in some cases. However, Netware uses cooperative multitasking. Meaning each NLM is therefore responsible to do some work, then release the CPU for other NLM's. If you have designed an NLM assuming you'll receive CPU only when there is nothing else to do, you'll be very likely to assume you don't have to give the CPU back for a while. Cause you'll only receive the CPU when there is nothing else going on. Allowing low priority threads to be upgrade to normal priority will allow the NLM that assumes it's only going to get CPU when there is nothing else to do to run all the time. And this NLM is not going to release the CPU for a while. Your server may grind to a halt till the NLM is done. Users will complain, your phone will be ringing off the hook, ... . framsey@goodyear.com; CIS 71631,1032 - CNE, CNA-4, PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DFT00010 Date: 11/21/96 From: LOREN OLSON Time: 10:03pm \/To: CHARLIE MOHLER (Read 5 times) Subj: Nw3.12 (2 users) Loren Olson sent this reply to: CM>Would be nice to practice configuring the "DEMO" version until you CM>get it right and then put the "real" license on the system. We're evaluating, CM>honest!! CM>Charlie Charlie, I started out running Novell 3.12 5 user at home a couple of years ago now. I have never looked back even once. Novell Netware is the only way to travel. As for your hardware setup, I have something similar except for Microsoft Office. Which by the way, I have been giving a lot of thought to. However, I bought WordPerfect Suite 7 and find that that is more than enough power for me. One thing I did, was to document the entire install procedure from day 1. If I ever forget something, I can always check my notes. Now I did recently add memory to the server to bring it up to 20 meg's. of ram. It apparently only sees 16. However to me that is such a trivial matter that I really have not given any thought to fixing it yet. The only operating systems I now use, are Win95, Mac 7.5.5,and OS/2 Warp 4. All are nicely supported by Novell. At any rate, I certainly would never even consider changing now. By the way, Novell's Web Site is a very well maintained one and obviously a good place to visit if you need some help. Later.
