Possible causes: disk channel bottleneck or buffers have > been lost. I've seen this exact errors before, and they were (as far as i could figure it out) caused by the network-drivers. It seemed that the (combination of card and) driver-version (the complete set of drivers used, probably not just the one NLM for the card itself) mishandled errors/warnings from the card. e.g. "possible cable disconnect" was not reported (but at one time, i made sure they were generated). The more errors i generated (there were 3 network cards in the server, so also three cables to disconnect), the faster the server gave up. My conclusion then was: The errors weren't reported, but just left in a LAN buffer, and thus after an amount of errors equal or close to the number of LAN receive buffers, the system went down. After installing several driver updates, the errors were neatly reported, and the server has never given the described errors again. I'd like to map the drive nwserverx1/vol1: to the subdirectory g:\vol1\ and map nwserverx1/vol2: to the subdirectory g:\vol2\. So I can access two different volumes off the same drive letter. Thanks for the responce, still looking for a text file with detailed descriptions of what can be placed in the net.cfg if you know a web site let me know,.... Also what are the major differences between netx and vlm? will the stuff above work with VLM? Reason I wonder,, I see places that run NETX and wonder if VLMS are new and better why don't network admins prefer them? This is a bit silly Richard. Riddle me this; I issue the command 'ARJ M MYARC' to move all files in the current directory into the archive MYARC.ARJ (which already exists). Does ARJ move the MYARC.ARJ into MYARC.ARJ? I suspect not. To fix the logging paradox you outline above, why not explicitly exclude the filespec of the main log file through program logic? One could achieve this by the use of an API call that issues an NCP packet, processed by the server, it would update the log in a supervised manner?? Just a thought.
