You didn't mention how much memory or how many users. We've had a couple of problems similar to this, server runs fine and even backups run ok. Only to crash during backups. Traced them all down to memory and/or motherboard (which had memory on it). What I believe is happening is the backup hits an area of memory that hasn't been used before. And this bad memory crashes the server. framsey@goodyear.com; CIS 71631,1032 - CNE, CNA-4, PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DEC00031 Date: 10/05/96 From: FRANK RAMSEY Time: 06:51pm \/To: FINN KRUSE (Read 5 times) Subj: Re: Netware 3.12 > FR> JCMD will allow you to see the DOS drive from the server. Any other opinions? comments? Have you taken any of the non-adaptive tests? 70 questions or so on the entire book. In depth. The adaptive tests use weighted questions. Someone places the weights and therefore decides how much to weigh obtuse areas. I do tend to agree, the adaptive tests seem to put lots of weight on what I consider the fine points you can always look up. Given this, my study technique is to concentrate on the fine details and trust the broad picture will be handled. I have to admit concluding the finer details of all the protocols was one area I decided to ignore. Figuring if they really asked what details on the 6th bit in an Ethernet packet, or something like this, I was going to fail no matter what. framsey@goodyear.com; CIS 71631,1032 - CNE, CNA-4, PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DEC00033 Date: 10/05/96 From: FRANK RAMSEY Time: 06:57pm \/To: MICHEL FASEN (Read 5 times) Subj: Re: Tape Streamers MF> Hi All, MF> I'm looking for some information about tape streamers. DLT is a highly reliable tape technology. Basically two types, DLT 2000 and DLT 4000's. Both have a maximum speed of 2.5 megs per minute, about 1.5 gigs per hour. The DLT2000 has a capacity of 10 gigs uncompressed, 20 gigs compressed. A DLT4000 capacity is 20 gigs uncompressed, 40 gigs compressed. Both are available in standalone and autoloaders. 4 and 7 tape autoloaders are readily available. Expect to pay about $8000 US for a standalone DLT4000 and about $15,000 US for a DLT4700 (7 tape autoloader). A DLT IV tape costs about $100, the DLT III costs $50. Capacity of the IV tape is 40 gigs compressed, a III is 20 gigs compressed. You can run III tapes in a DLT4000/4700, but not IV tapes in a DLT2000/2700. framsey@goodyear.com; CIS 71631,1032 - CNE, CNA-4, PE --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DEC00034 Date: 10/05/96 From: FRANK RAMSEY Time: 07:04pm \/To: PETER MAGNUSSON (Read 5 times) Subj: Re: Login source for Novell NetWare 4.1 FR> Must not be trained. My Novell Netware v3.12 came on a 3.5 HD disks (23 disks). And when I was installing it, I never see any option of installing the documentations. And I just looked thru all the set of floppies and nothing about DOCS disk in them... Wonder if they have this on their internet ftp site? Or may be someone else reading this message will offer a solution. When I bought my Novell, CD-ROM was not that common and I did not have any for installation, so I got the disks format. --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Systematic BBS, Bronx, NY (718) 716-6198 (1:278/111.0)
