My boss at work has an idea of reviving a bunch of 286 machines and connect about 6 - 8 of them to a network so we can send a form from one work station to the next, until the work order has been completed. We do have 2 - 386's and one pentium that would also ( more than likely be on the network ). My question is, will it work. According to him, some of the 286 machines have network cards. I doubt that he will want to hire an outside firm to do all the work and set everything up if we can do it ourselves. (which means I will probably be the one to do it) How does pricing for the network software work? They also have a bunch of WANG dumb terminals around, I told him to forget about them connecting to the PC's but he keeps bringing it up. He says we can get something to convert between the two. Wang and PC. Can I get some comments on that too? Thanks in advance for replies! I am just interested in using it for learning and also to store files shared via 2 terminals. Ie apps, etc. Should the configuration of 486DX4-100 with 16Mb mem do it. Or should I go for 32Mb mem. Also can anyone send me a copy of there *.NCF files for starting up a NETWARE v3.12 server with a NE2000 network card. Do I have to load any drivers for it in DOS. Or do I just use the startup files in the server to setup the NE2000 card. ie AUTOEXEC.NCF etc. Also what is the recommended size of the DOS partitation. I think 40Mb is enough. But I'd like some other peoples opinions. Any help would be appreciated. If someone can also give me tips on setting up the server for speed. ie. examples of *.NCF start up files.
