Thanks for the info, John; although a bit too late. I made the plunge last Wednesday and passed the test with flying colors! Only had 18 questions. I've just switched to this client, and I have (so far) encountered two "features": a) On one of the machines I installed it on, after logging in, and after Explorer loaded, it complains it can't find C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NWNET32.DLL. Now NWNET.DLL exists on the other machine I installed it on, as well as on this machine, but nowhere do I have NWNET32.DLL... Any ideas? b) The behaviour of the login script interpreter has changed!!! Using NETX from DOS, the %LOGIN_NAME variable would return "SUPERVISOR" if you were logged in as SUPERVISOR. Likewise, the Win95 client would do the same. But I have just discovered that the Novell client returns "SUPERVIS" instead!!!!! I mean, that is just plain ridiculous! I can't see any option to change it, and the login name definitely *isn't* SUPERVIS, it is SUPERVISOR.... Jonathan ... I'm writing a book. I've got the page numbers done. --- FMailX 1.02 * Origin: The Ninja BBS - +44 (0)161 283 1098 - <> (2:250/182) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DCY00002 Date: 08/24/96 From: ARTHUR MARSH Time: 09:03pm \/To: KLAAS DE VRIES (Read 5 times) Subj: Internetacces by Local Network On Sat 17 Aug at 22:29 Klaas de Vries (2:280/865) wrote to All: KdV> I'm working in a home were disabled people live. If you didn't require a server, a low-end router with modem or ISDN connection to a friendly Internet Service Provider might be the way to go. If you're running a Netware server, you could get an Eicon Packetblaster card which comes with Novell's Multiprotocol Router software, which could provide dial-on-demand or permanent modem or ISDN TA access to an Internet Service Provider. In our case, the Eicon Packetblaster could support both synchronous PPP and asynchronous PPP, which stand-alone routers lacked. If you have an on-site or otherwise convenient Unix person, a Unix machine could be connected to the LAN, have a modem or ISDN TA for connection to the internet and provide caching of WWW pages and many other features for people on the LAN running a TCP/IP stack. arthur@dircsa.org.au http, ftp, telnet to dircsa.org.au --- msgedsq 2.1 * Origin: Camelot Swamp MJCNA, Hawthorndene, Sth Australia (3:800/812) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DCY00003 Date: 08/24/96 From: ARTHUR MARSH Time: 09:14pm \/To: PAUL CASEY (Read 5 times) Subj: Patch List On Thu 22 Aug at 00:11 Paul Casey (1:343/117) wrote to All: PC> All NW v4.10 NW v3.12 SFT 3 v3.11 NW v3.11 Tools/Docs PC> 410PT3.exe 312PT8.exe LANDR6.exe 311PTE.exe DSDOC2.exe 312PT9.EXE is now out. Some apps come packaged with these required DLL files and they are simply loaded over the top of newer versions without so much as a peep. Very yucky. Keep a directory on your server, say SYS:PUBLIC\DLL, with the latest good versions and make them RO-Sh. Also, ensure that the silly application doesn't add itself to the search path. This is generally unnecessary. Instead, make sure that the 'working directory' field indicates the application's home directory.
