No software changes were made when the printers were switched over. We currently have a couple of Macintoshes on the LAN, which as yet have no printing capability. A few questions: Is there anything that needs to be changed on the NW 3.12 server to make better use of the LJ 5MP? Is there a software upgrade for MS-Win 3.X to work better with HP Laserjet printers, and if so where is it available from and what is the directory/filename? What needs to be done to make it possible for the 2 Macintoshes to use the LJ 5MP? E.G. do we need to add Mac name space to SYS? How do we set up a Mac queue to use the locally attached LJ 5MP that already has a PC queue pointing at it? What needs to be done on the Macs? Yes, we do have the books and have read them, but an outline and pointers would help. --- msgedsq 2.1 * Origin: Camelot Swamp MJCNA, Hawthorndene, Sth Australia (3:800/812) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DBY00060 Date: 07/27/96 From: ARTHUR MARSH Time: 11:43pm \/To: JIM MCLAUGHLIN (Read 6 times) Subj: Is there a client for 4.10 On Thu 25 Jul at 01:52 Jim Mclaughlin (1:2604/104) wrote to All: JM> Is there a client for netware 4.10 that doesn't use VLM's? Depends on the size of the disk. We usually use 2 gig disks and create a DOS partition of 25-50 megs. As for what else, basic DOS utilities, a small full screen editor and cd rom drivers. We install from CD ROM and place the drivers on each boot drive. Add to this a query tool that gives us the ability to stop the booting of the server. A prompt is issued asking if the server should be allowed to start automatically. Answer Y or N. Answering N stop the boot process. If the question isn't answer in 20 seconds, the server boots automatically. We also copy the boot drive to the SYS: volume so our backup product also backs up the boot partition. This uses JCMD, a DOS like command processor for Netware. Really neat tool. Most of the JCMD functions work fine in 4.1. Just don't try deleting files on the boot partition or creating a directory. 4.1 server will crash. framsey@goodyear.com - CNE, PE - CIS 71631.1032 --- EZPoint V2.2 * Origin: -- A Point on Pine Lake (330)-796-3146 -- (1:157/603.70) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 194 NOVELL Ref: DBY00066 Date: 07/27/96 From: FRANK RAMSEY Time: 07:14pm \/To: QWERTY (Read 6 times) Subj: Re: hi ya SF> yeah umm i think there is something worng with the modem on node 2 SF> twice today it has droped carrier on me :< SF> just letting you knwo Q> I turned the BBS off a few times so I could play network Q> doom with some friends. Given the price of the DX3 here (bout $50 at computer shows), go for the DX3100. Runs externally at 33, internally at 100. You are correct; Netware uses more bus than CPU speed. Gardner Group says a 250 user Netware server based on a 486/66 will give good performance. We're assuming the server isn't doing any CPU intensive tasks, ie. hosting Oracle databases, ... .
