AB> AB> am i right ?? Well, I would prefer to do it that way.. With 4.1 you can set up compression and block sub allocation, but NOT on a pre-existing volume.. so when upgrading, you are using a pre-existing volume. Also, one thing I would do is set up a separate sys: volume and a vol1: volume... Sys contains ONLY the system and public directories, and stuff that does not change, preferrably just novell stuff. VOL1: contains everything else, INCLUDING the print queues [which you can specify in novell 4.1]... The reason for this is that in Novell 4.1 if volume SYS: fills up, the server shuts down, and you MIGHT NOT recover from it. I tried it once on a test server. It definately locks up if volume SYS: fills completely and it was easier to wipe out the volume than to try to recover it... --- TriToss (tm) Professional 10.0 - (Unregistered) * Origin: Another World - Just a world away.. Will a faster server aggravate our collision problems? I think you're going to have to invest in a protocol analyzer and monitor the network to find out for sure where your heaviest traffic is originating. You might possibly have a jabbering NIC on the segment too, which is hard to find without a protocol analyzer, short of disconnecting nodes one by one and watching the packets received stats on the server. If the traffic is originating from a clearly defined source, it should be easy enough to segment the network to keep the collisions down. Ethernet will calculate a random time interval to retransmit a packet after a collision. This is a function of the NIC, not software. A faster server won't help in this case because the wire is already saturated with traffic. Can anybody help me ? I'd tried to use Stomper 3.21 but had found many troubles. First of all, DTR was off (I had used at&d0 to unstruct my modem to ignore DTR). Then, AIO initialized my port to only 2400 but after small patch ;) the port was initialized to 38400. The main problem is characters losing when connect. When my FIDO-mailer (normally operating FrontDoor 2.20) receives Zmodem blocks over 64 bytes, the CRC error is obtained ! (RTS/CTS flow control doesn't operate and I use at\q1 to XON/XOFF control). I think, the problem occurs when Stomper gets chars from AIO or when received data transmitted via network to NetFos. What can I do in this situation ? Yes... I have it running just great! The trick was to get a SCSI adapter that supported multiple luns.. Nakamichi will not be much help though..I called them myself over the same problem and they told me that they were not supporting the MBR-7 with Novell at all. What I would suggest is that you call Adaptec and try getting the latest drivers and finding out if the card that you have supports multiple luns as the lower end cards don't seem to but the higher ends (such as the AHA2940 which I have) do. And if I am not mistaken, the 1520 does not support luns...
