But will it work with a Netware 3.11 server? I am system analyst for a network that runs ethernet passing both ethernet_802.3 (for novell) and ethernet_II (for tcpip) packets running multiple 3.11 and 3.12 servers as well as several UNIX machines. We also have one old 2.2 server. The old 2.2 server is the ONLY novell server that has a problem with workstations running VLMs. Even it will work, but we have to trim down the NET.CFG on the workstation. It seems that some of the usefull new settings CAN cause some incompatabilities with 2.x. I like using VLMS (among other reasons) because they support up to 9 network printers under windows! Most users have no need for more than two, but support staff can never have to many! ;-) * SLMR 2.1a * COFFEE.CUP EMPTY: Operator shelled to kitchen..... --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Daedalus Online, Minot ND (701)857-6090 (1:14/648.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 193 LAN Ref: E3Y00000 Date: 03/28/97 From: SCOTT PARKS Time: 11:00am \/To: DAN MIKKELSON (Read 7 times) Subj: Question... Really depends on what you want to do .... file services, print services or TCP/IP access to printers/mail/internet? Also depends if your MAC's have ethernet or appletalk only. Up grading MAC's is very expensive. Basically you load MAC and bind it on the server(set net and zone), load MAC_NAME once (like long names), load file services, load print services. You'll obviously need a Netware client package and it goes into lots of detail for various options. I'm tying 14 MAC's into our network using TCP/IP/Appletalk because they can't afford to upgrade to ethernet. We are just acting as a gateway for internet access and we offer them none of our Netware services. We could offer them POP3 mail but don't. Farrallon makes an ethernet/appletalk converter that pretty much just plugs in and can be daisy chained.
