Does this mean that e.g. Netware 4 can use -> both protocols, e.g. IPX for LAN traffic, and at the same time TCP\IP -> for Internet acces ? Yes, but all it actually means is that you can have more than one protocol exist on the same network. This happens on many larger networks (and some smaller, as the cases may warrant). The example you cite is such a case. -> If i'm correct the following NOS's use the TCP\IP protocol : NT 3.x -> and 4.x, Unix\Linux, Lantastic 7 (option) and Netware 4.x (option). -> Can Netware 3.x use TCP\IP also, or is the default IPX protocol -> mandatory ? In NetWare 3.x, IPX is mandatory, but you can buy a whole slew of products that would make NetWare 3.x also use TCP/IP. This would allow Unix hosts to use the NetWare 3.x server as well as the DOS workstations. They are all connected by a token ring backbone and we would like to forward tcp/ip packets to any workstation requesting tcp/ip support. My associate says that someone on the 'net has already done this and has it working successfully. My question is: does anyone know how to get a 3Com Tokenlink Velocity to correctly support Linux and have it identify itself on the backbone? We are having a problem with it even connecting to the backbone. Any answers, thanks! --- PCBoard (R) v15.23/M 2 * Origin: LASER!
