AM> Since there have been complaints about connections with their AM> BBS, if there is demand, I could make manual and readers AM> available for FREQ from my BBS. Checked in with ZyXel's BBS again and they've changed to WildCat BBS software. Not all files uploaded yet. And the phone line connection is still on the poor side (I don't think there's anything ZyXel can do about that). Spent a half hour and the following files are now available for File Request or manual download from Ready Room BBS. File Request using EXACT file name(s). Manual downloads can find these files in file area 8: General Communications (first time callers _must_ complete _all_ initial log-on questions -- not many, but no downloads unless questionaire completed and security upgrades automatically). Everything else is exactly the same. -> -> Hi, Tyrone; long time since I've talked to you. -> -> If I understand you correctly, the identical init string that I had -> used for my U-1496E+ for FAX will work with my new Elite 2864? That's correct. There are very few commands that have changed from the U Series modems. We've added many commands to configure the new features of the modem. Almost all software that works with the U Series modems will work with the 2864 Series. -> If I might ask, why is such a high locked DTE required? I would have -> thought that 57600 would be sufficient. -> -> This requirement =may= "kill" a lot on doors on a node that uses -> such a high DTE rate. Setting the speed to 115.2kbps is a recommendation, not a requirement. This should be the minimum port speed set on a 28.8k modem. I have a configuration setting fo -> "Maximum baud rate" and "Lock port" in InterMail but am not certain w -> would set the fossil speed at 115.2kbps. Are these one in the same? This depends on whether you are using X00 or BNU. Each has a different command line option on how to lock to port speed. Is 1.04 better than 1.05 and in what cases > ? the release notes state (v1.06) : Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.06 Sep 13, 1995 1. Improved FAX V.17 receiving performance. 2. Improved FAX V.21 sensitivity. 3. Improved FAX printing quality. 4. New FAX feature: (1) Function of s73 bit3: Set S-register s73 bit 3 to 1 (ATS73.3=1) will enable direct FAX printing application to print longer FAX pages to LETTER size paper. For off-line DRAM receiving and printing application, if s73 bit 3 is set to 1 the printing driver will automatically and dynamically select a zooming factor and print the FAX pages to fit the selected paper size. The zooming factor depends on the page length of the received FAX. The default setting of this feature is on (s73 bit 3 is set to 1). (2) AT+FZL command: Show FAX receiving log For example, No. Remote FAX ID Speed Pages Size Status Hardcopy Retrieved === ==================== ====== === ===== ====== ======== ========= 1 886-35-782439 * 9600 3 110k OK YES 2 1-714-693-8811 14400 2 90k OK Free DRAM Size: XXX Where "No" ------------- Session log number "Remote FAX ID" -- Sending FAX machine indentifier (TSI) "Speed" ---------- Fax receiving speed and resolution "*" - fine resolution "Pages" ---------- Number of pages "Size" ----------- Log size (number of bytes) "Status" --------- Receivig result , "OK" or error code "Hardcopy" ------- FAX printing status "Retrieved" ------ Retrieved by FAX software if marked "YES" (3) AT+FZP=nn command: Print the received FAX by specifying the session log number "nn". 5. Fixed bugs: * FAX CNG tone transmitting: Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't work. * Data calling tone: When the data calling tone is enabled and a connection is made to another modem, the remote modem will show the wrong connect message like "CONNECT 115200/V.22 1200/NONE", but acturally the connection is not successful. * AT*Pn: AT*Pn can not be saved to profile. For example, originally at&f&v shows *P11. When at*p9&w0z&v is issued, the modem still shows *P11 instead of *P9. 6. Improved performance on FRN (fast rate renegociation). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.05 Aug 14, 1995 Note: Version 1.03 and 1.04 are not formally released, their relase notes re accumulated here. 1. Improved connectivity on noisy lines with some V.FC modems. 2. Fixed bugs: * S38.5=1 does not disable MNP5 * Wrong displayed FAX connect message for command ATX7#B1+FCLASS=6 tring. * The top portion (0.5/1.0 inch) will be chopped in fax reception when a fax is received in class 2.0 mode. * The connect message of V.22bis (ATX7) was 2400/ARQ/V.22/V42b. It is corrected to 2400/ARQ/V.22b/V42b. * AT command response error: the response of AT&N after AT& was ERROR. * Wrong display of V34 and V32b LEDs. For example, when the modem connects in ZyX mode, both the V.34 and V.32 LED come on but when there is a retrain the V32bis LED goes off. 3. When the DTE speed is set to 9600, the highest connection rate will be limited to 9600 bps. 4. The default connection mode for multi-auto mode will be V.34 28800 on leased line operation. 5. Improved performance on FRN (fast rate renegociation). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.02 Aug 01, 1995 1. Fixed bugs: * ATS0: If you give ATS0=3 or other values, very often the modem answers on the first ring. * ATS1: The S1 register does not collect the number of rings received. * ATS38: The command S38=32 (or S38.5=1) that disables MNP5 doesn't work. * MNP hang: After retraining and connecting on MNP mode, the modem will "hang" and can not accept any command. * V32bis hang: When the modem is connected in V32bis, sometimes, the connection can not be dropped by lower DTR. The DTR LED is always ON and the modem has to be turned off. * The sending and reception of break signal does not work correctly for error control mode. * The response of ati2 command (following at&z? command) is incorrect. * When the modem is connected in V.22bis, the SQ LED will flash or always OFF. * When ATQ2 is issued, the modem still responds to EDR and gives RING message. 2. ATI2 will display both transmission and receiving connection rate. 3. Remove two from at&v response. 4. Add AT&N12 to on-line help menu.
