Now, I have done every thing in my power to reduce JS>interference by purchasing TVI filters for the effected Televisions, hich JS>has reduced the interference to nul. However, I still manage to 'crash' or JS>lock up their Play Station games Console. Cheap junk... JS>The question is...Since the Sony Play Station is made of plastic and has no JS>chance of suppressing RFI as there is no metal case or any shielding what so JS>ever, is it therefore the owners responsibility to shield the effected JS>device? Yes, it is the fault of the game maker for making their stuff as cheaply as possible... however _IF_ you can get their permission, (and a signed release that they will not hold you responsable for any future malfunction as long as it's working when you return it), there are a couple of things which you can do that _MAY_ help: 1) SHIELDING: Take the game out of it's case and rubber-cement aluminum foil to the inside of the case, making SURE that it does not cause any short circuits when you reassemble it. (Make sure, however, that the foil IS connected to the game's ground). It MAY also help to give the same treatment to the plug-in cartridges. 2) FILTERING: Get some ferrite doughnuts and run ALL leads into/out of the case, (joystick, power and outout to the TV), through beads. It may also help to bypass all leads between the doughnuts and the game's "guts" with 100 Pf, 250 Volt disc ceramic capacitors. Bypass these to the game's ground. ... JS>I can't stand it when all the technical knowhow in the world won't cure a JS>simple RFI problem and believe me...I've tried them all!!! Sometimes "simple problems" require "crowbar & sledgehammer" fixes... I cannot guarentee that my suggestions will help, but they MAY make the problem less, and they may cure it. All I can guarentee is that it won't hurt anything. (The reason for the release is because if you so much as TOUCH someone else's equipment, the next time it fails for ANY reason, they are likely to say that it was caused by your "fiddling," even if it was caused by lightning hitting the power lines or someone dropped it on the floor and stepped on it. JS>There is only one thing left that may reduce the interference and that would JS>be to raise my antenna a little higher as currently it is (at base) 30 foot JS>which is approx. 10 foot higher than the location of the Play Station... Another 10 feet wouldn't make a noticable difference. 73 DE KB9QPM Ivy ... TVI? What TVI? -- Ŀ SysOp: Ivy's WALL BBS - 6 Networks 920-457-9255 IMHO: 5 WPM for EVERYONE. It came with all Operation, Service, and Parts manuals but not with the "key" document for it's use, the transmit site list. Briefly, there are a number of Chirpsounder transmit sites around the world that transmit an omnidirectional frequency swept signal at 50 or 100 kHz/Sec from 2 to 16 or 2 to 30 MHz. Receiver sites use the Chirpsounder receiver to track the swept signal, display the resultant frequency vs. signal strength display, and on a CRT, signatures indicating groundwave, single hop, and multi hop propagation. By interpreting the display the user can determine optimum frequencies for communication with the area where the transmitters are located. I wanted the receiver for contesting when I return to the USA where I CAN use amateur radio :-) Pretty great toy for a Ham, right? Problem is, each transmitter sites begin their sweep at a very precise time and frequency. In order to use the receiver you must have a list of the sites, and their start frequency and time. This I do NOT have and without it I have just another boat anchor :-) I do not have Web access here in KSA so I can't do a search. If one of you would be so kind as to check the various search facilities for "Chirpsound" and "Chirpsounder" to see if there is a source for the "Site List" I would sure appreciate it. Perhaps a search for NAVCOMMSTA might be helpful too. It is the only transmitting station named in the manual but the time/freq data is not included. Many thanx in advance for your assistance.
