In that case I see no reason to post any further requests regarding it (unless there are direct questions). I've also added a link from my HamPage to a diagram I put together lastnight from the measurements of the array. Maybe that will help and I'll find some info that way. The page URL is "http://www.qsl.net/kb6lwn/antquest.html" in case anyone wants to take a look. I'm toying with the idea of contacting several antenna mfgrs (ie HyGain, Cush', Ant-Spec, etc...) and asking if a senior person could take a look to see if they recognize it as one of their products. Don't know HOW many will be willing to do this, but I guess it's worth a try. I think I have enough detail on the pic to allow a positive ID, if I get the right person looking. If you want, I suppose I could get it copied and send it to you. I would appreciate a SASE and maybe a little to cover the cost of copying. If you want to discuss this, please netmail me. -OR- I have found that the engineering departments of most broadcast stations keep a copy of the handbook on the shelf for reference. You could check your local radio/TV stations to see if they have a copy that has a dipper in it. They would probably be happy to run you off a copy for free. How QRP are we talking, 5 watts? Somewhere on one of the AM pages on the net (think it's www.thebizlnk.com/am.htm) there's a "Cakepan Transmitter" - a single 6AQ5, modulated by a pair. takes one whole watt of 8ohm audio to drive the audio portion of it. A crystal is needed for operation. There are 4 tubes in the whole rig - all 6AQ5's (as I recall) one as a buffer, the other three as the final/modulator. You could probably go to http://www.hotbot.com and search for "Cakepan Transmitter" (no quotes) and remember to click on "the exact phrase". (DDRR) This would appear to be a rather nice antenna where one has limitations on how large an antenna they can have. And in the case of hidden antennas the 2M, 6M, 10M and maybe the 15M and 20M versions properly painted might be a solution. The 2M version stands only 1in. high, is 6in. in diameter, and is made from .25in tubing. The only problem is that the article doesn't mention anything about how it compares to other antennas. It only says that it will do 1.1:1 over the entire band when properly setup. Has anyone had any experience with this thing? The only references given are for the Jan. And speaking of QRP, here's something of interest to QRP'ers... Date: 12-27-00 QRPers of the area, UNITE! This is the second announcement of the first meeting of the Houston QRP Club. The meeting will be held on Saturday, January 17, 1998 from 9 AM to 11 AM with lunch to follow at a nearby restuarant for those who care to stay. The location will be my office conference room, 5718 Westheimer at Bering Street (one block west of Chimney Rock), Suite 970. Plenty of free parking in the garage (please remember to remove your big mobile antennas). I will be monitoring the 146.700 (- offset) repeater for anyone who needs directions and who works QRP that high. We will be discussing what we want in a local club so this is the chance to come have your input! As mentioned in the first announcement, there will be a free gift for everyone who attends - a 2W audio amplifier kit courtesy of the St. Louis QRP Club and K5BDZ. Also there will be a special prize for the person traveling the farthest to attend the meeting. Someone in Austin is making noise about winning that one. If you would like to make a presentation on some favorite subject, please email me. We have good presentation tools at work. There will be coffee and pastries so you can even sleep late and still have a fine morning of total immersion QRP. Please RSVP via email so that I know how many hungry QRPers to expect. By all means, bring your latest QRP project to show and tell. And remember, if you are one of those who die for low club member numbers, you'll kick yourself if you aren't there! Bill and I will fight over #1 and #2. Glen will want PI. But everything else is fair game :-) So be there! It's safe on my HD, edited into a single file, and will be II> relayed to our local jammer-hunting coordinator (when he gets time to et II> it). It is something I put together after 4 months straight of jamming and crap on the local repeaters here. It helped to nail one pain in the butt and put fear into several others. Now with APRS DF-ing is easier to do with one stationary point and several mobiles using the APRS software to nail the twit. I'm still playing with the APRS software, but only for the DF part of it for now as I do not have a GPS unit yet. II> Strange thing happened about a week ago, though. It obviously wasn't bothering them ome bit, so I switched to Sounds like you have a stolen or "found" radio in the hands of a someone who has no idea of how a repeater really works. He/she/it has probably figured that since they can only hear one of the people talking so toss a carrier to jam the other person listening. Commonly called the cb-mentality. II> simplex and said something like, "You aren't bothering them one bit, but II> you are sure showing YOUR stupidity. This is KB9QPM, and you don't have II> the GONADS to give YOUR call!" Amazingly enough, not only did that II> jamming attempt stop instantly, but I haven't heard any on the local II> machines since then either! Maybe it was enough of a shock to im/her/it II> enough to pound a little sense into their thick skull! I doubt that it Probably scared the crap right out of them when they heard someone else on their "private" channel talking right at them. Several times I've heard yo-yos blabbering away on 10m AM(!) with oger-beeps at 28.045 up to 28.325 and they freak when someone comes on and asks them for a callsign. They seem to think they are in a "private" frequency area on their radios that no-one else has and it scares them when someone DOES show up. Same as the clowns who got their hands on 440Mhz business band radios that had been modified for amateur use and started a "club" on a 440 simplex freq here. They got a BIG surprise when someone broke in asking for a callsign after they heard a conversation about tearing down some guy's antenna! II> cured the problem perminantly, but we can always hope. Actually, I ould II> prefer it if the person were known, at least to one honest person, because II> that would hopefully make them think twice the next time they decided to II> start playing again... something like: "I'd like to jam K9ABC talking with II> K9DEF, but K9XYZ caught me before, and if I do it again I'll be the rime II> suspect, so maybe I shouldn't do it." 70 percent of those who jam are -bored $h!tless- with what or whom they listen too,so decide to "spice" things up by trashing a repeater and forcing people off it. (makes them feel `big' ego wise) The leftover 30 percent have an axe to grind with one particular group or ne person and trash the repeater only when their favourite traget is on the air. ( commonly known as: get the local bucket-mouth off the air) 100 percent of those caught red faced / handed DENY doing the jamming and may/will attempt to lay the blame on someone else entirely. When caught,I call it justice when they are handed a hammer and given a choice of scrapping their radio themselves,or having their name blasted over the air as the caught jammer. They usually scrap the radio... And when someone who jams has it happen to them they are INCENSED,OUTRAGED and demand JUSTICE from anyone and everyone listening in a 150Km radius to go out and DO something about it. When that happens I call it poetic justice,as they got what they deserved. --- GoldED 2.42.G1219 * Origin: VE3SJN....Moderator....HAM_TECH (1:163/506.4) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 188 HAM TECH Ref: EGZ00002 Date: 12/27/97 From: ROB DENNIS Time: 02:07am \/To: PAUL WILLIAMS (Read 0 times) Subj: YAESU FT-212RH:MODIFICATION RD>> I've been looking thru my stuff and the only mod I have is for RD>> MARS/CAP Will re-read that one and see if it can be reversed.
