Actually, I haven't seen another program that displays like STSPLUS... it's about as close to the big wall-sized whole-world display in Mission Control - and do it full-screen - as it's possible to get on a computer monitor. It has PCTRACK's display beat all hollow. If someone can show me a comparable display on a different program AND display several birds of MY choice, (not the author's), I will switch. Until then, I think I will stick with the pgm tht I know CAN do what I want it to do and keep looking for the way TO do it. OH0NC DE KB9QPM 73 Ivy ... I've just replaced the powercord and fuse holder on said rig. (new cord is a 3 prong with the ground connected to the chassis) I've had the rig for over a year and never messed with it until now. I found it from a scrap yard in San Antonio (at .10/lb. a great deal) and it appears someone had tried to sell it at a yard sale. I have no idea how long it sat unused before I got it, and while it does power up and work on most bands (10 and 6 were quiet) it still has a few bugs in it. (the 6aq5 audio out is the neatest shade of blue when running. gassy I know, I'm looking for a replacment) So far 160 - 15 seem to pick up signals, and it does right nice on 80. The thing is, is that the electrolytic caps need time to reform. Proper procedure would be to reform them using a variac and stepping up the voltage every so often, or to flat out replace them. Problem, no replacements on hand, and the variacs I have are unaccessible. :< Fortunately the only electros are the main filter (a 60u,40u,40u,40u jobber) and a 20u/25v. I'm not to concerned about the paper caps, and everything else is variable, mica, or cd. Is there by any chance an alternative method to reforming old caps? Ie. maybe run it for 30 - 60min a day, and leave it off the rest of the time. -=> Yours sincerely, Paul Williams KB5IVG <=- ... And now, to start gratituous EchoViolence...BOINGY! BOINGY! I got the above for a 386dx mb, and I'd like to find a rather peculiar frequency mod for it. The rig is currently modified for CAP use. (last used in cap) And while I have the mod to open up the tx/rx to 132-180, what I'd like to do is lock the tx back down to 144-148 but finish opening up the rx. (wx sats among other things) I may be way off base, but I was thinking if I had the stock jumper settings and the mars/cap info I might be able to figure out which set controls which and do the above. Conversely, maybe someone has heard of what I'm after, and could relay that info. Again, so there's no doubt... *THE RIG IS ALREADY MODIFIED, I WANT TO **UNDO** THE TX PART OF IT* Since the answer is probably borderline, netmail or probably e-mail might be the best place to continue. Correct. > Problem, no replacements on hand, and the variacs I > have are unaccessible. :< Got one here... but again, if the reciever is already working, there's no need to worry about reforming the caps. If they had shorted during it's "rest", you'd know it by now! > Is there by any chance an alternative method to reforming > old caps? Ie. maybe run it for 30 - 60min a day, and > leave it off the rest of the time. Even that wouldn't have done it. What you should have done was to bring it up, to around 25v on the primary line, and let it cook for a while. After about an hour or two, bring it up another 25v, to around 50v, and let it play for a while. Don't even attempt to listen to it - there's not enough tube emissions yet to allow it to work, yet. After around another hour, bring it up to around 75v - another hour - 100v (same waiting time), then up to normal line voltage. 73 = Best Regards -Jeff KA5THB ka5thb@bigfoot.com --- FMail 1.02 * Origin: Electronic Avenue BBS 210-533-5668 San Antonio, TX (1:387/510)
