For many of us, the difference is lower long distance charges on a regular basis for the next year or more while you're waiting. Another thing that you neglected to mention about the v.34+ code. It isn't just for 31.2 and 33.6. It enhances transfers across the board by offering a more robust connection. When I installed the code I immediately saw a jump of one connect speed with everyone that I call regularly.
