The size would depend upon what wavelength you were transmitting. About 5' should be plenty ample. But this really isn't the forum for this conversation. We'd better get back on topic. ;) 73s, Doug Patterson, N9PKN --- FMail/386 0.98a * Origin: The HamShack BBS - Independence, Mo. - (816) 796-6695 (1:280/19) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 188 HAM TECH Ref: DG100002 Date: 11/30/96 From: LARRY KUNZ Time: 10:34am \/To: JEFF EDMONSON (Read 5 times) Subj: Radars and Amateur Radio On (25 Nov 96 17:43:02) Jeff Edmonson wrote to Wayne Sarosi ... It has hung my 6M repeater several times. The 440 is not affected due to the PL, but it is still there. I understand that, when it is there, it is very strong on the north end of SA than here. To add more problems, I read where JPL and others are serious about using the 430-440 band for the satellite based radar ground mapping project. More RF pollution! You should try riding around with 6M in the car. It is amazing just how much trash there is in the city making 6M (and 2M at times) almost useless. Larry - WA5KBQ lkunz@flash.net ... More RF pollution! How wide is thier signal? I'm of the idea that if you can't hear a 100kHz wide packet signal, such as those that were down there at 430.550 (at 19200 bps) with a convention NBFM reciever, then what's something that wide or more going to bother when they go up? > You should try riding around with 6M in the car. It is amazing just > how much trash there is in the city making 6M (and 2M at times) > almost useless. I also have a mobil rig - the Azden PCS-6000 - and it doesn't matter what I take with me when I pass downtown, it tears up EVERYTHING. Most of that is a couple of paging towers that just barely "peek" over I-10, down next to Fiesta Foods (Spices, etc). They're maintained by International Radio Corp (the G.E. place in town). Those pager systems operate at around 72MHz... doubling puts 'em right in the middle of 2m. :< Yeah - I've heard the noise down here. Too bad there aren't more hills in the area for them to relocate to - would mean less congestion in one area. The Medical Center here must be useless, too! 73 = Best Regards! -Jeff KA5THB --- FMail 1.02 * Origin: Electronic Avenue BBS 210-333-0060 San Antonio, TX (1:387/510.1)
