Does anyone know how to get an Icom 740 to transmit on the 10mhz, 18mhz and 24.5mhz bands? Mine only has receive operation on these bands. Also, does anyone know where I can get a dc power cord for this transceiver? Thanks. CUL8R Martin Campbell KB0HAE --- PPoint 2.00 * Origin: The PYROmania Point...Got A Match? MC> The lithium battery may be getting low. I would try the MC> reset, though... Thanks for the comeback - at least I know the message got out! Didn't try the reset... if I recall properly, it's something like powerup+Func+keypad0 but since my keypad didn't work, I wouldn't have been able to do it anyway. I ended up digging into it this weekend, and found the internal battery pack had discharged, shorted, and leaked acid paste all over the insides of the HT. Fortunately, the only things that got 'yuck' on them were the cast aluminum case and the keypad pc board. After taking a few more deep breaths, I got out the soldering iron (had to unsolder the speaker leads from the main pcb, since the speaker is fixed to the case) and pulled out the 'brains' board and the keypad board. They're at different levels, offset by about 1/4", and there's 3/4" x 1/4" pc board soldered in place as a 10-pin jumper... not flexible. Broke that apart... oops! |-} Once it was all apart, I used some baking soda and water (a basic solution) to help neutralize the acidic battery leftovers. I rinsed the keypad board in the stuff too, and finger-scrubbed it clean, and cleaned the rubber key contact sheet too. Got everything dry, reassembled it, and managed to create 10 solder bridges (each 0.020" wide at 0.050" spacing!!) with my 40-watt soldering iron to reattach the keypad board to the brains. Anyway, the outcome is... it works again! Now all I need is a new internal battery - Periphex's internet site says they're $25. I think I can manage that. Oh, and it turns out the internal buttoncell battery is still good - after all of that time with no good main battery, it still remembers all the frequencies in memory. Radio still transmits, too. Does anyone here have experience operating at 23cm and above? If so I would like to hear about it. What equipment is used, and is it commercially available, or is it mostly homebrew? What power levels are generaly considered safe to operate at? How do microwave antennas differ from others, and what sort of range can be hoped for? I'm curious to know if anyone at all is exploiting the EHF bands at all...
