There was only one slight problem with the web page, even though it described their Doppler DF kit and included price, shipping cost, etc., THERE WAS NO EMAIL ADDRESS, EMAIL "HOT TEXT, PHONE NUMBER, SNAIL MAIL ADDRESS, NOTHING! that would allow me to spend my money and immediately order one of the Roanoke DF kits. Does anyone out there have a phone number or any other information on DF Systems? I was going to build a modified version of the DF unit featured in QST (the Front-Back-Left-Right) to which I added 4 more LEDs for a total of 8, but the DF Systems unit I believe had 12, and it looked so much better. I'd like to hear from anyone who has any info on the Roanoke Doppler DF unit, or who has built one. Especially need that phone number or address! Wondering if anyone's heard of this problem, before I start unscrewing all those tiny little HT screws. |-} My Icom 2SAT has been sitting for about 1/2 year, slowly discharging its nicads. When I hooked up the AC adapter and turned it on, I got the display, and it still remembers all the preset frequencies, and the rotary tuning knob works properly, and it recieves what's on the air where it thinks it is, but the keypad won't work properly... Sometimes it'll enter one digit no matter what you press, sometimes it'll ignore you entirely. The strangest thing it does is an autorepeat of a key, where the autorepeat speed slows down exponentially, like the voltage decay of a capacitor. From a quick peek at the schematic, I could guess that the keyboard matrix is somehow corrupted, but I'm at a loss to explain how just that area could be confused, and (apparently) nothing else. I haven't tried doing the keypad power-on reset, but I'm not sure it'd work anyway. |-} Sound familiar to anyone? RD>> Coming in next Friday's upload.... It may be 2 years old but it is the RD>>only comprehensive listing of known 6m beacons that I have that are RD>>active. Useful propagation tool for anyone interested in 6m. RBK> (puzzled look) Then, how come the ARRL Repeater Directory has a ouple RBK> of hundred 6m beacons listed (on pages 623 thru 628) ? RBK> Are you saying that most of them in the Directory are inactive? :-( Most of the ones in the directory are `paper' beacons and only exist on some list the ARRL has. This list I have is of known and verified beacons that ARE transmitting. The ARRL pocket repeater guide is ful of `paper' beacons and repeaters that only exist on some list and have never been built, installed or operating at all. The listings for my area (Ottawa) show three 70cm repeaters and four 2m repeaters that have not been on the air in over 5 years, yet they are duly noted and listed every time they print a `new' edition of that pocket guide. And one repeater's callsign has been WRONG for over 3 years straight. Not a bad guide, just not too trusting in it myself. --- GoldED 2.42.G1219 * Origin: VE3SJN,Assistant-Moderator,HAM_TECH (1:163/506.4) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 188 HAM TECH Ref: DDQ00001 Date: 09/19/96 From: ROB DENNIS Time: 04:36pm \/To: GARY SMITH (Read 8 times) Subj: Lost Messages. I'm working on a new version of it to go after some local HF twit that has been out to trash a local HF net. GS> Part of the content of one message was our discussion about equipment GS> that is being used on 11m. I wanted to point out that you mentioned the GS> TRC-451. The board is the same as the Cobra 2000/148, the President GS> series, and others. Its a Uniden board. Uniden made (makes) maybe 75%, GS> or more, of all the 11m PCBs. Gary the 451 board is not in the 2000/148 series. The board in the 451 was specific to that chassis only and the boards in the 2000 and 148 were a totally different design but the same for both radios. Although Uniden DID make both boards they were different in many ways. Most export stuff is partially based on the mixing and reciever circuits in the 451 chassis with a few added components for FM and wide-frequency use. The 2000 and 148 series also use a different PLL entirely and their circuits and mixing scheme is different. A 451 can be modified easily for 10m use with one crystal swap and a minor realignment for power and recieve. The 2000/148 series can also be modified similiarly, but seem to be less than adequate in the recieve sections for 10m use without some heavier modifiying. I prefer to modify the 451 or 449/457/458 models for 10m use over the Cobra. Only nice thing about the Cobra conversion to 10m is that you have a uilt-in frequency counter right there in front of you. BTW Cobra/Dynascan no longer exists as a seprate company,Uniden bought them out about 1978-1980. GS> Well, I'm in the process of preparing for the ARRL Sept. VHF QSO Party GS> that starts today.
