MF> Far be it from me to argue! ANY HF log periodic puts a lot of metal up MF> in the air, so a GOOD rotor would be an absolute must...as would a MF> sturdy tower. MF> What make/model of rotor are you using now??? I am using a "Create Design" EMOTO RC5A-2 The previous one was a HAM IV. This was the one that let the end of the antenna swing up to about three feet in a high wind. I was getting rather concerned about the antenna as the ends at the back were realy whipping at the end of each swing. As another point, it had been installed for just a couple of months. When it was taken down the ball bearing assembly around the lower rim was already rusting. As I said, there had been a lot of high wind and rain so I suppose that the rain had come up under the flare of the moving top section. The tower is a DELHI 55 Ft HD free standing tower. (Actually about 53 Ft as the sections overlap where bolted). To improve stability and to ensure no problems in high winds, I added three heavy duty guy wires to the same ground anchors that the Hydro company use for their power poles. There is four cubic yards of concrete for the tower foundation. Shaped wider at the bottom than the top. Rebar reenforcment and a ten foot ground rod that starts at the bottom of the concrete. As an experiment, My Son had bought me a 'Terramar fully automatic antenna tuner' by the name of 'Match All". This company is/was at: Terramar Systems Co. 3299 S.W. 11th Ave. Ft. Lauderdale FL. 33315 It is what they called a 'transmission line' matcher. I tested it on the bench with various resistive loads and found that the match to the transmitter kept close to 50 Ohms. While (after my son bought it for me) I read a lot of nasty things about it, I decided to put a co-ax up the new tower and couple it to two of the guy wires. I put insulators at the top and bottom of the guys and spiralled a copper wire around the guy. There was nothing to lose as if it did not work, I could remove the box and add a normal tuner. I was pleasantly surprised. Reception is good an all the bands. Comparable to a longwire. I have worked the 40 and 80 meter bands getting very good signal reports. The 160 Meter band while recieving OK, does not radiate at all well. Of course I use the log-p for the higher bands. I wonder if anyone else has tried this unit? As a point of interest, we have a friend living in Largo Florida (Near St.Pet's) who we are trying to get interested in Ham Radio. 73 Stan * "Politically Correct" is a contradiction in terms. --- RoseReader 2.52 P003387 Entered at [WESTONIA] * Origin: Westonia Computer Systems 1:250/636 (416)241-1981 (1:3615/51) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 188 HAM TECH Ref: DAV00002 Date: 06/25/96 From: STEVE EIZENBERG Time: 12:29am \/To: ALL (Read 7 times) Subj: help with ant problem is there anyone that can solve my ant problem? my problem is i can't put up any outside ant's in the apt building i live in so i put up a horizontally polarized inverted V ant in my radio shack. it is 21 feet each side. it is the best that i can think of at this time but it does not work very good i get a lot of noise and bad signal strength when i get anything in at all through the noise. does anyone have any ideas to solve the problem? steve kc7byp --- QScan/PCB v1.16b / 01-0024 * Origin: (1:3407/14) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 188 HAM TECH Ref: DAV00003 Date: 06/25/96 From: TOM DALEY Time: 06:25am \/To: ALL (Read 7 times) Subj: need manual frg-7000 hi all i need a manual for a yeasu frg-7000 receiver a copy of either the owners or service manual would be great ! need the schematic too !! i can/will cover all cost for copy and postage. any help would be appreciated. thanks 73 tom reply here or tom.daley@530.gigo.com --- GEcho 1.11+ * Origin: The Memory Board (1:203/530) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 188 HAM TECH Ref: DAW00000 Date: 06/25/96 From: BRUCE LEGRANDE Time: 10:55pm \/To: ALL (Read 7 times) Subj: Illumitronic Company Address ? Don't think sunspots have much to do with it, as sunspot activity has been very low, and will continue that way foe a couple of years at least. Where do you live? One possible explanation might be that you live close enough to a station that relays (or rebroadcasts) the chinese station that you hear. A more likely explanation is that someone nearby has a receiver that is re-radiating the signal. A .01 or .03 micro farad capacitor(ceramic) across each speaker lead (one or both ends) should eliminate the problem.
