The piece of equipment used is called a sonar transdusor used for doing seizmic surveys to locate gas, oil, and mineral deposits in the ocean floor. It requires a 120 ship to haul it around. Sorry but it's not man portable. Regards, -=Scott=- ... I am sure there will be a lot of talk about it just keep your eye out for it. The only thing I can confirm for sure is that it does exist and is "said to" work. Hope that helps you out. What is being refered to here is a very new peice of technology which is very much portable and suppose to create a feild (I don't recall if it but I believe it is a mile electric feild) around the diver and when the shark comes in contact with the field (that is surronding the diver) it would turn away. Apparently there were test done and it worked well (I can not confirm these results). I have seen an interveiw in which the device was discussed and was tested (how real the tests and results I don't know) and it seemed to have good results. I can try and see if I can get more info on it, but I do know for sure that this portable device does exist and is designed to protect the diver with the device from the sharks. I read about open water divers getting killed all the time trying to make extra money as a commercial diver. It's a real shame. Some business man is trying to save some bucks by talking a scuba diver into doing something that is way out of his league. I guess it's hard to turn down some guy that is flashing $300.00 in you face just to make this little dive. It ends up costing the bussiness man tons of money in the end if the diver gets hurt or killed because the law suits fly after that.
