You guys are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, lucky. I weigh 240, 6'1" not all flab thank you. With an Al 80, 7mm farmer john, and top, hood, mitts, and booties, it takes 37 lbs to keep me under at 10' safety stop with 700psi in the tank. I wish I could dive saltwater with less, but after amny attempts at "shedding lead", With less than 36lbs, I bob like a cork. So next time you think that someone with 20lbs is heavy, remember us New England Cold water divers that are large economy size. ;+} ....Mark in Beautiful Downtown Pembroke, NH We faced a crisis in our earlier nuclear age. I just moved from there three ago and MH> teach at a couple shops on Oahu. Ever make it to the Mahi or Kahi P I got certified on Oahu with "Beach Divers-Hawaii" in April of 94 but no I did not make it to the Mahi or the Kahi, our boat went to the Mahi but I was told that I could only snorkle above, all my cert dives were at "The Makaha lava tubes" and my final dive I met "Stumpy" the sea turtle, he kept tapping me with his flipper while I was clearing my mask, my 2nd trip to Hawaii I only had time for 1 dive so we went out with "Fantasea divers" arranged by "Activities & Attractions" since my boyfriend was not certified they would not take us out on a boat we did a beach dive at "Electric Beach" I had never done a beach entry dive so that was a new experience But the Instructor with my boyfriend said I did great, I've thought about becoming an Instructor myself But what I really want to do is to work with Marine Mammals and now I've started volunteering for the "Marine Mammal Center" in Sausalito, CA working with the Veterinary staff caring for Harbor Seal pups, next week I start working with the adult elephant seals and Sea lions and I'm working on getting into a Veterinary program with a community college, It's funny because I've spent the last 12 years in the medical field, 10 prehospital(Ambulance), 2 in the clinical as a dispatcher then a clinic operator, now I'm changing to the thing that I wanted to do most as a child, But I got married at 19 and now I'm starting over at 33. And get this, the article says the program is free of charge. I personally have some disagreements when dealing with the blind handicaps, but if someone is willing to work with these people and they want to spend the money to properly and safely modify the equipment, i'll point folks in that direction. On my first dive of a trip, I'll often take an extra 2 pounds since all my equipment is dry and air tends to get trapped in the crevices.
