With any mag I receive the first thing I do before reading is to go through and remove all those cards. Seems like all the mags are into this now days. CW->I think Rodele's may have succumbed to the SKIN DIVER CW->syndrome, all adds CW->and no facts!!! Yes that's my belief also. Makes me wonder if times are that bad that they need all the advertising or it's just greed. --- GEcho 1.11+ * Origin: Computer Connection/RA 2.02+/GEcho 1.11+/FD 2.12+ (1:157/574) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 186 SCUBA Ref: D1M00011 Date: 01/16/96 From: JOE DZURINDA Time: 07:45pm \/To: HARRY OLDENHUIS (Read 1 times) Subj: Tech Divers HO->Could you tell us what sort of equipment you need or they HO->got HO->for this Tech Diving. HO->I did notice that a few divers here seem to have the latest HO->equipment HO->thy take hours to get into the water (showing off) and are HO->out in a flash HO->again, then parade around showing off. HO->We are a few jears behind here but I'm interested on what is HO->availeble. They usually have 2 120 cu ft tanks on their backs. Then there are the pony bottles and deco mixes that they carry. Add to this 2 or 3 regulators some reels with line and that is pretty much it. I can understand why the dive shops love it. The owner of the shop where I help tells me that they like this deep diving because they get to see wrecks that no one else has been on. My response is that I would have to see a wreck that hasn't been picked over before I made my decision. These tech divers are forever practicing but I never see them doing any real dives other than the quarries. It appears to be a very equipment intensive sport, and I don't have the ambition or money to try it. Most of the diving up here is less than 100 feet max with the average being maybe 60 feet. We have some impressive wrecks in Lake Erie and I've really enjoyed diving them. It may be a bit cold requiring a dry suit for depths over 40 feet, but I do enjoy the dives. --- GEcho 1.11+ * Origin: Computer Connection/RA 2.02+/GEcho 1.11+/FD 2.12+ (1:157/574) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 186 SCUBA Ref: D1M00012 Date: 01/17/96 From: STEVE ELLIOT Time: 05:01pm \/To: KEVIN REID (Read 1 times) Subj: Sub Aqua Journal > If this is a problem for you, check out a fine publication > called AQUACORPS. This is the time of year when a lot of dive shops sell off last year's rental gear and try to make a profit off of those long-ago unclaimed repair tickets from their service shop. Take a look at your local shops and see if any of these options are available. You can also get lucky by watching the pawn shops, swap shops, and yard sales. Obviously in these cases, you would want to have the regulator setups carefully inspected by a trained scuba technician. --- Tanks! BC'n you. * Origin: [\] Diver Down BBS [\] Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I guess it's my turn to jump into this conversation . BTW, I am Mike's dad. We have looked at brochures, etc. for about 2 years now. We had the field narrowed down to Divers Unlimited or Pro Dive as of last summer. We did go to FL and visit Diver's Unlimited, but time did not allow us to visit Pro Dive. Although my son'e education is of utmost importance, I also would like to know a little about the area in which my son will be living while at school. Your typical nervous father, right? Can anyone tell me how the surrounding area, housing and general atmosphere is around Pro Dive as compared to Divers Unlimited? Is there available housing close enough that Mike would not need his car while at school? Once again, as Mike's father (and SysOp here ) I thank all of you for offering your opinions, advice, etc. We appreciate all of your time.
