Actually, I suspect quite a few people have seen sea robins, but you have to look carefully. When they're on the bottom the lie motionless and blend in very well. It's surprising that more people don't run afowl of their poisouous spines. Lee --- PCBoard (R) v15.22/M 2 * Origin: The Cross Roads BBS Ft. Tech diving, in one form or another, has caught on pretty much everywhere. Deep and low visibility diving is not particularly common here in S. Florida only because there's too much to do within sport diving ranges. Our tech divers tend to be wreck, cave/cavern and/or nitrox divers. From my standpoint, you're a tech diver. Cold water is a special environment and I don't have the faintest idea of how to put on a dry suit, let alone weight or control buoyancy with one. Place: West Bank, Upper Niagara River Water Temp: 0C (32F) Air Temp: -8C (18F) Wind Chill: -14C (7F) Heavy Overcast, and snowing, adding to the approx 18" already on ground. Current: average for that stretch, about 6mph, decreasing toward exit point. Surface conditions: Waves less then 1 foot. Numerous ice floes up to 5ft in diameter. Average less then 2ft in diameter Underwater Visibility: Poor, about 6 ft. The entry point known locally as "The Hook", a point of land sticking out into the main current just north of the Ft. Erie Customs Dock. As shore ice in this area was reaching about 60' from shore, thickness less the 3 inches. Within 5 minutes 1/3 of the divers made for the emergency abort point as their BC inflators frozen open. With in seconds the inflator hoses were frozen to the BC inflator valves making it impossible to stop the BC from inflating. All over inflation valves functioned properly so no damage was done. After 20 minutes, at depths to 25ft, the remainder of the party arrived at the designated exit point, the beach off the Ft. Erie water treatment plant. Much to every ones suprise there was not a single regulator freeze up, only BC's.
