I am looking to Become instructor certified this coming spring and would like to go to a good facility. Because of the nature of the various shop affiliations around here I will probably look to cross certification as well. Some of the schools that look at this point like they might have promise are: Pro Dive, Dive USA, Halls and the Northeast regional Instructor development program for the YMCA. If anyone knows something about these that they think I should be aware of I would appreciate hearing from you. If there is a program around that I didn't list that someone feels worthy of consideration I would also like to hear from you. Thanks. Be wet and well. If you are I would like to meet up with you, maybe we can do lunch one day while we are there? also give me some more info about your ICE instructor course. John Massa is the only ice instructor in this area, and he has got a contract signed that he can not teach in the Kansas City area for 5 years because he sold his dive center. I have a DUI CF200 dry suit so I dont think Ice diver will be a problem. Well I must go for now but keep in touch. Keep Wet!!! Dover is where I catch my zzz's but I am on the road a lot. I pass Russ's place two or three times a week and generally fill my tanks there or with Jay at Portsmouth Scuba or Dave Woods at York Beach. Russ is one of my customers and if he can get things together wants to be my landlord. Most of my diving is off of York or out at the Isles of Shoals. Never done Winni but would be open to a meet sometime! I've been lucky that a friend has a small boat and needs company when he dives the Isles. Dave Woods has a fine dive boat that also goes out there, York Ledges and Boone Island. He will be doing some wrecks off of Cape Ann next year too if he can get the right staffers for his operation. Just about froze my buns a few weeks ago with high winds and seas and low temps out at the Isles so I've just about hungup the wetsuit for the season. The exception will be next weekend when (weather permitting) I try out my warm weather gear anticipating six dives off of Mexico and the Caymans in December and better than that in the Bahamas in February. Next year I start saving for a drysuit! ... When I get to Abaco in the Bahamas in February that's when -> we just go out to the reef for lunch. And it's warmer there too! I may have some bad news for you. In the Bahamas, including Abaco, it's illegal to take any form of life while on scuba. Although you can spear lobster in season, you must do it while free diving. Just in case you don't know, it's also illegal to use any form of spear with a trigger. Hawian slings and pole spears only. The other problem is finding the lobster. There's lots of divers in the Bahamas and lobster is both a food and income resource. You have to know where to go and those of us who do, aren't talking. Try duct tape, probably from the inside. I've used it to fix my airboat, my canoe, my sailboat, my powerboat and my car. It can do anything. Since it can sometimes seal a leak in a high pressure radiator hose, it might just work for your application too. If you try this, please try it somewhere safe with assistance available in case it doesn't work. There's few of us around as it is and we don't need to lose any.
