This visability was only about 6 ft the other day so it was easy to pass. CS> From shore I was told to enter about 1 km south of the Marina and go out to 20ft. And that I would run into it. Well I've made 3 passes and two of my friends have made 3 each with no luck- (we think its a ghost barge) CS> Just to the south of the Marina at the parkway you will see 4 or 5 CS> brown I parked my truck there for pick up CS> From boat. yeah I wish. CS> Just a word of warning. Thanks- We'll heed your warning and tie off to the opening or to each other or figure something out. CS> If you have a boat you should visit barge #43. It's a much better CS> wreck. Well give me directions and I'll make it part of my next dive plan. SW> tm Are you going by boat or from shore?? From shore Just to the south of the Marina at the parkway you will see 4 or 5 brown wooden posts to block cars driving on the grass. Line those up, walk, crawl, fight whatever your way through the weeds. At the edge of the weeds the bottom drops off very suddenly to about 22'. And there it is. If you're a bit off, (posts hard to see from water level) swim along the bottom of the slope just as it flattens out. You should hit the wreck as it's only about 5 or 6 feet out from the bottom of the slope. The wreck runs more or less parallel to the bottom of the slope, also there is a long hill of sand formed in the lea of the wreck, reaching back about 40 or 50 feet downstream. From boat. Set you depth alarm at about 15 feet, the top of the barge comes to within 12 ft of the surface. From the marina run south just off the edge of the weeds. You should be easily able to see it from the surface. From my dive log dated July 22/91 line up a yellow road sign with the south end of a prominent V shaped rock, then just out past the weed bed. At that time vis was about 30'. Just a word of warning. Heard from a usually reliable source there was a close call on that barge earlier this season. From what I heard someone got into the upstream end, stirred things up and almost didn't find his way back out. If you have a boat you should visit barge #43. It's a much better wreck. --- * CMPQwk #1.4 * UNREGISTERED EVALUATION COPY --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.11 * Origin: The Classic BBS*Niagara on the Lake,ON(905)262-5958 (1:247/216.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 186 SCUBA Ref: CCE00001 Date: 07/30/95 From: LARRY JUKER Time: 08:04pm \/To: HONZA GRITZBACH (Read 1 times) Subj: linked ? Just got home from a weekend trip to the coast (Seattle) and will be going back next weekend. There is going to be a 16th annual "Diver's Fair Sale" at several dive shops in the area. We got a sneak preview of some of the prices and it sure looks like it will be worth our while to return. We were thinking seriously about renting equipment for several months before buying. Now we are starting to change our mind. We will likely do the Advanced Divers course and get the extra experience while over there. Plus, there are several good seminars we would like to attend. Lemme see now. I don't want to wear a weight belt for the sake of one or two pounds of weight, and I guess I really shouldn't dive with rocks in my pockets. Hmmm. Ideally I would have a small buoy with a weighted line attached to it, maybe something thirty feet long or so, so I could go down hand over hand. Or, maybe some of those velcro ankle weights, if I can find a lightweight pair. Or how about three feet of rope with a pound weight at each end? No buckles, you could just drape it over your shoulder or back and drop it faster than a weight belt to boot. There sure are a lot of possibilities here. Come to think of it maybe it would help if I stopped eating chili before diving... hmm... --- DLG Pro v1.0/DLGMail v2.51 * Origin: >>>>>Phantom<<<<< (604) 939-4857 (1:153/229) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 186 SCUBA Ref: CCE00004 Date: 08/08/95 From: DIANE BOETTCHER Time: 09:51am \/To: LOU VALLONE (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: Dan membership LOU VALLONE wrote the following about Re: Dan membership LV>Cliff Sumbler e-mailed me a note about how much he had saved in LV>past years of diving by not having the insurance from DAN, since LV>he never needed it.
